I've been thinking a lot about the Welcome Center since Emma--Miss Woodhouse, sorry--made some suggestions about it.  Some of her ideas were really strange, but it's so great that she's excited about making things better around here.  I don't think I've ever met anyone with that kind of enthusiasm.

[pause]  But the Center.  Right.  I was wondering ( Read more... )

Connor, yes! She mentioned that, but I don't want to strong-arm anyone into doing something they don't have time for.

Actually, I was wondering if there would be a way to write up a really quick guide on how to use the network things? That way you wouldn't have to give any classes or hang around waiting for new people to show up. Really, though, you don't need to do anything unless you want to. You seem like a complete technology wiz--I bet you have a million things to do.

I might could do that. Yeah, that could work, an' if you get people that need, like, more hand's on stuff, then I could swing on by.

An' I'm not a whiz, well, I kinda am, but I'm really jus' cobbling together what I know from home an' matchin' it to what I've got here.

Great! That should make it so you don't have to spend too much time on this.

Can I call you a resourceful tech genius, then?

So, about Emma Woodhouse...She has a very nice smile. But not as nice as yours.

Only that wasn't what I wanted to talk about.

Thanks, Billy. You have a nice smile, too... I wish I saw it a little more often.

What was it that you wanted to talk about that wasn't smiles?

It's just that Emma was here before, only a slightly different version, and she was a--person of firm moral principles.

She definitely sticks to her guns. I like that about her, even if it's kind of terrifying.

Strange? What do you mean? I do not believe I have suggested anything peculiar. But I do not have your modern sensibilities.

Not strange like that, just... unusual. The whole ball idea was neat, but it's not exactly the kind of thing that people need when they drop in from another dimension.

But you have great suggestions! You're so much better at knowing what people need than I am and I'd love to have your help making improvements around here--only if you want to give it, I mean.

Obviously our times are very different. Where I am from, attending a ball is exactly the thing to do when you are in a strange new place. Not that I have ever been anywhere strange or new, but this is what I have been told. How else are introductions to be made? Not everyone will be able to make friends on their own. Sometimes a little assistance is in order.

There is nothing I would like more than to help. Except go home, of course.

That's true--I didn't think about that. Maybe it wouldn't work with shy people, but it could be a great way to get people mingling. Is there anywhere in the City that's ball-sized?

Thank you, Emma.

What does a Welcome Center require?

I haven't quite figured that one out yet. So far we have maps to hand out to new people and beds and meals for anyone who can't get by on their own right when they get here.

It's nothing to be sorry for. Curses happen and I know you wouldn't say anything derogatory if you could help it. You're a good person like that. Also? You have great glasses. Very John Lennon.

Besides all of the tangents, today's been great. How're you doing? Keeping busy?
