Still waiting for the rest of the family news from Honduras

Since Honduras had a 7.1 earthquake and 4.8 aftershock early Thursday morning, I am justifiably concerned about my family living there. It is amazing to me that there has been apparently no horrific damage. Seeing the middle of a bridge absent (El Progresso) in the one picture provided by CNN - that I had driven over in '94 - was very startling. As ( Read more... )

Oh goodness! I didn't realize that you had family down there! Many good thoughts and hopes that they are all just fine.

*hugs*

Yes, the Teflon Spouse was born and raised there; he came to the US as an adult (yes, he was legal :)).

There is only one sibling of eight still living in Honduras; the others are scattered, but his mother was one of 17 (!), so you can imagine how many cousins he has. When we visited, I swear everywhere we went came out the cry, "Hola, primo!" We started making jokes about even the chickens by the roadside being his cousins.

Thanks for the good thoughts! Hugs, back :)

Thanks, my Stoutfellow Pal! It seems that it could have been truly MUCH worse. It doesn't even sound like too much damage happened.

My word. Somehow I missed even knowing that it had happened. Good thoughts on their way to Arizona and Honduras.

Thanks, Mmegaera! You and everybody else. Sigh. News from Honduras doesn't make it to the mainstream US news very often. I just happened to catch the news, but even CNN didn't have too much on its international page. My brother-in-law told me that Univision had much more on it, which I guess would be expected.

That does make sense (the Univision thing). They cover a lot of news in the Hispanic world that never makes it to the US mainstream. Seattle just got its own Univision affiliate a year or two ago, and it has made a big difference to the Hispanic community here, or so I understand.
