DC

Before I embarked on my DC trip last weekend, a handful of my coworkers anxiously implored me not to meet some guy and fall in love while I was there. I didn't meet a guy, but I did fall deeply and instantaneously in love with the city itself. It's how I expected to feel about San Francisco-and then didn't-and now here I am, feeling it about ( Read more... )

So many things to love here.

FOOD PORNOGRAPHY! Srsly, that cupcake shop. Makes sugar mainlining look glamorous!

You and thorne reading fanfic out loud from AO3 and freaking out everyone in the bar. GO GETTEM GIRLS!

The capital city in fall. Beautiful! Go during the summer at least once, though, if you're thinking of moving. The heat/humidity in DC are truly oppressive.

Georgetown Cupcake was super-cute! I could have stared at the cupcakes forever, but they ushered us through there, assembly-line style. Very serious business.

I'm not sure that the other bar patrons fully grasped what the fuck we were talking about, but they seemed suitably offended that we'd dare to speak at all while the band was playing. I'd never seen anything like it. It's a bar, not a music venue, come now. Oh well, conversation for the ages.

I was talking to someone yesterday about the summers in DC. Humidity is an amusing novelty when I'm on vacation, but you're right, it's a total downer to have to live your normal life in it. Also, mosquitos. I didn't factor mosquitos into the equation at all. Food for thought...

I went to Ted's Bulletin while visiting the area for a wedding last year, it was good. You try the homemade pop tart? I also liked the weather for similar reasons-- I love jacket weather-- but dealing with the snow that will come is a whole other thing. I considered taking a tour, seeing the White House and such, but ruled against it because of laziness related issues. I did vow, however, to tackle that the next time around.

Your hotel was pure snazz-- I may have to stay there next time, myself.

You should check out the job market there, see what's what. It may be just the thing for you.

EDIT: Yeah, dunno how I forgot about the bugs, too. Not exactly sure, but if they're anything like what I encountered while working in the Conn./Mass. area... Plentiful! Granted, I was doing field work...

Yes, we had the homemade pop tart! Pretty cool stuff :)

It seems like taking a formal tour (maybe like one of those trolley things) is the best way to see DC. Things are kind of far apart, in terms of walking, so expediting the process is likely a good move. That was the recommendation of some locals and is my plan for sure, the next time I go.

I think I'd have to go back in the dead of winter and middle of summer before I could make any real decisions about moving. The mosquito thing is horrifying; I had enough bug bites after Florida to traumatize me forever in that department.

I apologize for not commenting sooner, this week has just been hell for work. But! It was so very lovely to meet you, even if I was denied a second evening by a dumbass tire issue! I swear, I luck out so much with all my internet meet-ups; everyone turns out to be funny and charming and attractive and interesting, and I have not yet met an ax murderer or a psycho or a boring person yet. (It also makes me vaguely nervous that someday I am due to meet a really terrible person, but for now, I'll just marvel at my good luck ( ... )

Oh, tires-at least it made for a good Facebook photo-op! There will be a next time, whether it's DC (which I am totally coming back to next year) or Phoenix, if the boys of summer could ever tempt you with their spring training.

I think the people in the bar just didn't understand us. Which is possibly for the best, given some of our discussions. Apparently whatever kind of genre that band was (jazz? lounge?) is very serious business, and has been duly noted for the aforementioned next time. More vodka, less scat singing. If it matters, we don't seem to have those bands here in Phoenix, at least not anywhere that I've been.

JT's hips! Even reading other people comment about them drives me to distraction, it's so silly. Such is their power, though. Also, I just finished reading some apocalypse AU, Justin-is-legit-insane story by waxjism, and it was amazing but unsettling. Ring a bell?

Hooray! Yes, come back, there will be more things to do. (also, omg, did you see how the entirety of NSYNC was at Chris's wedding? I thought of you when I heard it.)

I know, right? I mean, she wasn't a bad singer, or they weren't bad musicians, but folks, I am here to both drink and do things that come with drinking, which is generally some nice chatting. Do not give me the evil eye for doing bar things in a, you know, bar. It's not like we were smashing pool cues or chairs over anyone's head.

I think I remember that! She wrote a lot of stuff, and I remember a bunch of apocalyptic things; it was a trend, along with the inexplicable wings and stuff for a while.

I wrote two more paragraphs on the Zito and Tim do nasty stuff with Tim's Little League uniform story; if i get bored I may have to just somehow combine it with the Buster and Tim Victoria's secret thingy and save time.

I am soooo coming back, never fear :) And yes, I've scrutinized all of the horrible paparazzi shots; hopefully at some point we'll get good pics? People mag or someone reputable should be all over that.

It's been, like, 24 hours and I'm still unsettled by the apocalypse! I actually woke up at 5am with anxiety over the entire thing. Kind of ridiculous, but I guess it was a powerful piece of writing? I'm trying to think back to other similar AUs and I'm not sure I saw any. But then, given my pairing/rating criteria, it's entirely likely that I just scrolled right on by most of them, as you do when you're really only searching for one thing.

Girl. You need to get on gchat and copy/paste, ASAP. You can't just tease the LL story without delivering the goods. (Also, I would totally read some sort of Tim/Zito, Tim/Buster hybrid fetish story.)
