Today was the second and final day of the Independent Game Summit, again I'm going to skip the dull stuff.
The day started A Tale of Two Kyles which so far has been the best session I've seen this year. Kyle Galer and Kyle Gray were both part of the Experimental Gameplay Project and both Worked at EA. As an aside the EGP is worth checking out, it's a bunch of short interesting and often fun experimental games. I played a bunch of them when I first got my Tablet PC since they tended to be stylus friendly.
They both are now working on personal projects, only one of them is doing it through EA (and with all the constraints that entails) and the other quit EA and is doing his as a start up. Both games look great:
The EA game is a DS platformer/match 3 puzzle hybrid with an sort of wacky power puff girls meets colonialist England style (it has an awesome "IT'S TEATIME!!!!" Big Ben to giant robot transformation sequence that will hopefully make it to the final game)
The startup game is an expansion on the Tower Of Goo game made as part of the EGP and involves building towers out of goo with interesting physics. The original was pretty engaging and addictive so World of Goo, should be similarly awesome.
Unfortunately after that the day was pretty dry, last years IGS was full of interesting game ideas and excitement over downloadable console games. This year was dry and felt a bit pessimistic. On the upside it had way more slides of lol-cats.
But tomorrow is another day, and it starts with Ken Levine talking about Bioshock and story :)
