OK, let's ask the real question that's on my mind with regard to the kitten decision:

What are the odds that a woman of a certain age (as the saying goes) would ever find a husband if she lived alone with her five cats?

You just have to not date guys who are douches. Because only a douche lets the quantity of a woman's pets influence their feelings towards that woman.

What it comes down to is what you want. If you want five cats, then you should get five cats. Any guy who isn't ok with the number of cats you have (zero or a million) is not the guy for you.

I think if a guy is dissuaded by five cats, you wouldn't want him anyway. Unless the reason is that he has five cats of his own and moving in together could get awkward.
