The ending just sent chills down my spine. I never did care much for Martha, the way she always pushed Clark on Lana or Chloe and though she acted as if she was being fair with Lex, I never thought she did. She has redeemed herself in my eyes here though, at least in the end. I always find myself cheering for the woman or man who will do whatever is needed and I do mean *whatever is needed* to protect their children. After watching the news and how innocent children go missing or are killed while their *cariing* parents didn't see or didn't care enough to do something, it's very liberating reading about those who act first and ask questions later.

I really enjoyed this fic, now I'll just have to 'patiently' wait for the next "Hidden Intentions". ;-)

I agree with that, and not just with this story. I can't fathom how a mother could kill her own child or how she could knowingly place her child in danger.

God, you made me want to cry, but I couldn't. I felt drained and detached. . . much like Martha, it struck me as. Bravo on this one. Gut-wrenching is how I would describe this story. Another truly masterful story to add to your already great collection.

Thank you so very much for posting this, for sharing your work.

Thank you! I purposely wrote Martha as sort of detached over the whole thing, not because she didn't care, but because she couldn't handle looking at it in any other way.

Awesome!

I'm so glad that even though Martha screwed up, she recognizes it but won't let anyone hurt her kids despite that.

Way to go.

And way to go, you. What an excellent choice to have Martha end the story with a promise to do anything to protect Clark and her unborn child.

Awesome.

I think that, no matter what her mistakes, she'd do that. However, I can't lie and say that I'm overly sympathetic towards Martha in this story. I don't have a lot of tolerance for infidelity.

Strong, searing, wrenching. Excellent. Should you ever, ever, *ever*, even for a second, decide to revisit this variation, I will so be there with you.

Thanks so much for posting this. It was truly worth the wait.

There is a sequel to this--I'm just not sure when I'll get it posted.

god , yes, even if she made some wrong but understandable decisions along the way, i am sure, deep down, somewhere lionel knows, what martha is capable of.
and hopefully, one day, she will be able to show him that.

He certainly does. It's part of the reason why he's attracted to her.
