Don't those both suck? Apparently they learned nothing from the failure of the "Lionel turns good" storyline, or they wouldn't be flailing to repeat it.
Lana has been at the center of Clark and Lex's motivations for six seasons and her death could radically change the balance of relationships in Smallville.
This was my comment on the same statement over at TWOP:
"She was a factor, sure, but only ultimately at the CENTER because you guys forced the issue. Until recently, our guys were capable of having thoughts, motivations and conversations entirely independent of LANA. "
Absurd, isn't it? Do they not realize that, should you say everything to do with Clark and Lex is about Lana, then you're disregarding their entire friendship. If I'm recalling this correctly (*sarcasm*), they got to know each other better because Lex was interested in the boy who saved his life. They became friends because of that--not because of Lana.
I can agree with them as far as conceding that Lana was important to their initial bonding, because as early as "Metamorphosis," Lex picked up both on Lana's "attractiveness" and the fact that Clark liked her, and it always seemed to me that Lex was so impressed by, and so in love with, his savior, that, by God, if his dad wouldn't let him keep the truck, he (Lex) was bound and determined at least to help him get the GIRL he wanted
