How football changed Germany

This entry has been coming a long, long time -- basically since 2oo6, to be honest -- and since I feel all sentimental and teary-eyed anyway, this seems like the right time to post it.

Aaaaw, well, it made me tear up a bit writing it, so at least you're not alone. I just wanted to explain all the feelings I have for Die Mannschaft and what they mean for me and my country, so it's nice it's appreciated ^^.

Seeing the pic of Mesut on the pitch, of Sami helping him up made me cry a bit today. But yeah, I have faith, these boys have tremendous talent and one day, one day ... they will win all the awards.

Suffering - das ist das richtige Wort :) Aber ich habe im Zuge der Euro 2012 die Erfahrung gemacht, dass ich im Hinblick auf den deutschen Herrenfußball immer gelassener werde (ok, das liegt auch daran, dass ich eigentlich froh bin, nicht noch einen zweiten Platz in dieser Saison miterleben zu müssen... im eigenen Stadion, im Elfmeterschießen, Schweini verschießt... *le sigh*)

Aber ich wünsche dir auf gar keinen Fall, dass du jemals dasselbe Tal der Tränen durchschreiten musst wie ich, in den Jahren von 1998 bis 2006 (und in den letzen beiden Bundesliga-Saisons...), und somit auch deine Euphorie nicht so schnell verlierst :)

Sehr schön gesagt. Ich erinnere mich auch noch sehr gut an die WM 2006. Wie genial es damals war und wie schön und okay es doch einfach mal war Deutsch zu sein. Das war mir vorher auch noch nie so aufgegangen, muss ich sagen
