I imagine them to be something like meeting certain people, to be faced with some decisions, going certain places ... in general, I'd call them "crossroads". Take our first meeting for example. It was pure chance that we started to talk about Star Wars and discovered our shared interests. If one of us had decided not to take that walk we my have never talked to each other - oh, the horror!
