For the past few years I'd only been recording post-2005 books on Goodreads, b/c that was when I started actually recording what I'd read. But yesterday I was super bored and restless at work and started just putting up random pre-2005 books that I could remember. And now I feel bad b/c I'm sure ppl's emails are like BOMBARDED with all my shit. But I'm wondering how to handle stuff I know I've read but don't remember well enough to rate? MY LIFE, IT IS SO COMPLICATED.
I don't think you should be ashamed about reading whatever. Reading is awesome! And no harm comes from not being a picky reader. I will read from any genre, but I start a lot of books that I don't finish b/c they bore me. If you're not picky AND you feel compelled to finish everything you start, I can see how that would be frustrating.
yeah, i keep randomly rating books i remember reading a few years ago, but that always leads to ANOTHER book memory so then i am compelled to add that also.
haha, i have the same problem with books i know i've read but don't remember!
yes, i definitely feel like i have to finish every book i pick up. sometimes it doesn't happen, but then i feel like a failure.
I'm like three chapters in, and it's pretty good. I've never actually read P&P, so I have no...groundwork to base my comparison on? I think it will get more interesting as I get further in.
When I read it I feel stupid though, because I can NOT remember character names for the life of me. And they keep using nicknames or shortened names, so I'm like 'Who the hell is this now? Is this that girl from before, or another girl with a similar name?'. But I would recommend it, even if just to have a book called Pride & Prejudice & Zombies on your shelf XD
i read pride and prejudice recently because i was sick of people telling me i should read it. it is the only jane austen i've read. my friends are all REALLY INTO jane austen . . . i did like pride and prejudice but i much prefer the bronte sisters.
yes, there are so many characters. i like russian novels because they tend to have lists of the characters in the front and you can keep turning back there to figure out who everyone is.
Heh, right now I am reading poetry, literary criticism, and The Sensual (Quadratic) Form. But these days it feels like I mostly go for cheesy genre fiction of previous centuries.
I always find "log everything you do" websites confusing-- like, isn't that work?
it is work, but if you are anal retentive and ocd organized like me, it is also fun? i mean, there are reasons why i considered being a librarian.
the only other site i have that logs the things i do is last.fm, and it does it automatically so it's no work at all. i mostly just use flickr and lj otherwise.
If I were hard-core about ravelry I would take photos of everything I knit. I fail at this. I think part of the problem is that my camera runs batteries down in about half a day, though, so I can't just casually take pictures-- I have to find the batteries, put them in, and remove them as soon as I'm done.
HOLY LORD. Ennuikitten as in Melanie, Melanie as in my best friend from high school - did I not know this or did I know it and forget?! ... Did I forget I know you or did I bump my head?
i went to swarthmore, so i know tiffany (biggieshorty) also. i had a class with melanie but didn't really get to know her or tiffany until after graduation.
it is a pretty scary film! especially the creepy mask.
i think celia or allison will get kicked off soon, they won't let two blonde weirdos end up in the top 3. :( but i love them both, they are really the only good things about this cycle so far.
