I've been quiet on the blogging front but only because I've been busy working on KYBS. I've managed to get my writing mojo back this year and have been doing at least an hour on it every night. It's definitely helped that I've been trying to head over to the Royal Festival Hall each evening to spend some time writing there, because there are much ( Read more... )

Thanks so much for the shout-out! And oh, yeah...from my conversations with authors I think of as HUGELY successful, the lesson was that the green-eyed monster never, ever goes away - so you're right, we have to put it to good work. I would never have gotten determined enough about my own novel-revising and agent-hunting if I hadn't had friends succeeding with those things who made me realize that - if I cared THAT MUCH - then I had to grit my teeth and DO something about it!

No worries - I'm genuinely thrilled for you because it's a v. cool award. Plus the thing I like about the Branford Boase is not just that it has a diverse shortlist but it also recognises the editor and I think their roles aren't given enough praise during award season.

:nods:

The moment for me came when I was talking to my mum and said I couldn't believe X had got nominated for Y award and I could write something better and she said "Well why don't you then?" And there's no real good answer to it.

Malorie Blackman said that when it comes to writing you have to shit or get off the pot and I think she's right.
