Room 308, Tuesday After Classes

Jan 04, 2011 12:03

With most if his stuff unpacked and his very first high school class finished, it was time for Tony to relax a little bit. Which, for him, meant drawing up schematics for the suit in case he needed it in space. Or under water. Or spying ( Read more... )

The door might have been open, but Ender? Still knocking.

He was just checking by to see how Tony was settling in - he had a feeling the answer would be 'reasonable', but it never hurt to check. "Hey."

"So how complicated is the medical set-up you have in there?" Ender asked. "Are we talking just stims, or surgery?"

No, he couldn't read the narrative, but someone had a hunch.

"Well, it's only programed for patching someone up now," Tony replied carefully. "It would need a lot of supplies for anything more."

Or just use what it had on hand.

That was a kind of conflicting answer, wasn't it? "So it is technically capable of doing more, it just doesn't have the supply capacity?"

"The original design was set up for more," Tony admitted. "But it was just a prototype."

Seriously, thanks a bunch, Robo-Suit.

"Problems?"

Ender was lucky he had a good straight face.

"Unforeseeable set-backs." Ah, that sounded nice and professional.

Nice and professional and utterly transparent, but yes. "Hm," he said, instead. "And how about the GPS? Linked into a heat sensor, I imagine, but how are you keeping it on target for humans-only?"

Yes, Tony, show him your sensor array. Hot.

Oh, baby. Oh, baby. Ender, you dirty boy.

"Right now it's linked to Stark International satellites for navigational systems, but that doesn't exactly help me here," Tony replied with a frown. "The pilot or operator should be able to correct any mistakes the sensor misses, but I'm still working out a few bugs there."

And then it came to life and tried to protect him. Protect him with it's cold, metal love.

"So right now, it's pretty much still remote controlled," Ender said, though he was careful not to sound amused by it.

"It's safer," Tony granted him. "But I've given it a few test runs. I know it does work without the auto-pilot, at least."

"At least that's something," Ender said, leaning back in to get another look at those schematics. "So what part of it are you working on today?"

"Navigation. Short of hacking into someone's satellite systems, I'll be flying blind here."

Not that he was strictly opposed to hacking if it was for a good cause, but... this Tony followed the law. Most of the time.

"And without Stark International backing, you can't work up the finances to buy into a satellite yourself," he guessed. "That does make things complicated."

And now Ender was thinking about talking to Jane to see how his own finances matched up, and what, exactly, he might be able to get for them.

Tony nodded, clicking into a series of half finished code. "As long as I'm here, I'm grounded. So, any tests would have to be back in New York. My New York."

His head hurt.

"You couldn't just 'borrow' a conventional GPS and piggy-back on its signal?" Ender asked. He was... pretty sure Jane would let him do that if he asked.

Ah, the conveniences of pet AI management software.
