Prostitution/rent-boy!Dean recs
The 411 on Rec Searches:
For fun, a mod will occasionally put together one of these rec searches. (You can still
make your own rec post at any time, fyi.) Rec search info and a rec search masterlist can be found
HERE, and you can leave any suggestions for types of rec searches you would like to see there.
These recs were compiled from
our last rec search. The theme of the rec search was prostitution/rent-boy!Dean.
Thank-you so very much, reccers! <3 This is a super-impressive list! (There are actually a couple more recs I didn’t add to the list, as they’re friends-locked. I apologize for leaving that out of the qualifications.) But yeah, if anyone has any other similarly themed recs, (or self-recs), please leave them in the comments to this post so that others can check them out. ;)
One more thing: If you're a sensitive reader, I just wanted to say that I’ve tagged these to the best of my ability and posted warnings whenever given, but I haven’t read every one of them personally (yet), so it’s possible something may have fallen through the cracks. Please assume that many, if not all of these, contain sensitive subject matter.

Born Every MinuteAuthor:
apetslife @
petwritingsTags: prostitution, psychological issues
Characters: Sam, Dean
Genre/pairing: none, hints of Sam/Dean UST
Rating: PG-13? Probably.
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: season one
Warnings: off-screen prostitution
Summary: The section in Sam's Politics Of Gender and Sexuality class had said that prostitution was damaging, scarring, universally harmful, a blight. To Sam's critical eye, Dean doesn't seem particularly scarred.
Reccer’s comments: This was the very first rentboy-Dean fic I bookmarked, way back in April 2006. It's perfectly short, with spot-on season 1-style dialogue.
Title:
Dean Winchester's Guide to Hitch-hikingAuthor:
audraroseTags: prostitution, injury (misc.)
Characters: Dean, Sam
Genre/pairing: pre-series, gen with some Dean/OMC
Rating: for adult themes.
Word-count: 1840
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Summary: Dean knows how to hitch a ride.
Reccer’s comments: Similar to a "Five Things" fic in structure, this is a collection of pre-series shorts. The third is a snapshot of a teenaged Dean: cocky and practical and horribly young. With her inexplicit writing,
audrarose is very good at letting us piece together the (ugly) picture.
Title:
God Made Boston On A Wet SundayAuthor:
balefullyTags: bottom!Dean, prostitution, secrets (somebody finds out)
Characters: Dean, Sam
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean, pre-series
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: 8,750
Spoilers: None
Warnings: Sam is 17. There's also some gunplay.
Summary: Sam and Dean live in an apartment in Boston while John is away on a hunt. Money is scarce, so Dean picks up a particularly slutty part-time job. Sam finds out.
Reccer’s comments: Woah. WOAH. This was wonderfully atmospheric, with one of the hottest sex scenes ever. Sex in the car! Protective!possessive!Sam! Oh, man.
Title:
Red (also available in PDF
here)
Author:
big_pinkTags: prostitution, injury (misc.)
Characters: Dean, Sam, etc.
Genre/pairing: Gen, Horror/drama
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: Early seasons
Warnings: swearing, gore and glancing sexual themes.
Summary: Something evil is killing treeplanters in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, possibly the same predator that Dean narrowly escaped years before. How Grimm will things get before the brothers figure it out?
Reccer #1 says: This is dubiously a rentboy!Dean fic, but Dean's growing desperation leading up to his decision to hook is a central element to the fic, so I decided to include it. Besides, no one will break your heart quite like BigPink. Though this is part of a larger series, it stands alone without effort effort and is well worth the read. Long, plotty, and with fully fleshed out characters, Red is a good example of Pink's elegant and intricate--but always satisfying--plots, beautifully juxtaposing Sam and Dean's bleak childhood and battered adolescence with the men and hunters they will both become. My favorite elements are the three phases of Dean portrayed: each carefully realized throughout the story as a damaged and flawed, but ultimately unflinchingly heroic individual. Curl up with a cup of tea and prepare to lose an afternoon to this fic. You won't regret it.
Reccer #2 says: I came across this fic a while back and it constantly draws me back to read it over and over again. It's already been rec'd here but it's that damned good that it's worth saying again - wonderfully creepy and vivid and the authors draws the landscape and the boys' emotions so perfectly, it's hard not to imagine yourself right there in the slash with them...

No Virtue Like It & the sequel,
Reasoned NecessityAuthor:
derryderrydownTags: prostitution, dub-con
Characters: Dean, OMC, John
Genre/pairing: pre-series Dean/OMC
Rating: PG-13-R
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: None.
Warnings: Under-age, dubious consent.
Summary: Dad's bleeding when he staggers into their shared motel room and kicks the door shut behind him.
Reccer’s comments: Dean gets caught shoplifting bandages; the gas station attendant suggests a way he can pay for them. Throw in an injured, but not completely oblivious John Winchester and...ouch.

What Little Boys Are Made OfAuthor:

Characters: Dean, Sam, John
Genre/pairing: Gen, pre-series
Rating: PG-13

Reccer’s comments: Nicely done. Dean's desperation really shines through.

I wonder as I wanderAuthor:
fleshflutterTags: prostitution
Characters: Dean, John
Genre/pairing: pre-series gen
Rating: PG
Word-count: 1555
Spoilers: None
Warnings: implied rentboy!Dean
Summary: The compass is a small, smooth silver thing. It has a pleasing weight in John's palm.
Reccer’s comments: Dean and Sam give John a conspicuously expensive present. Things go downhill from there. The Christmas setting gives this fic a particular sense of poignancy. It helps that
fleshflutter has a knack for constructing simple, hard-hitting images: decorations on a potted palm, flickering fairylights like ambulance lights, etc etc.
Title:
Rip us out at the seamsAuthor:
fleshflutterTags: Dean’s deal, prostitution, child abuse, non-con, psychological issues, secrets (somebody finds out)
Characters: Sam/Dean
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean and Dean/OMCs
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: 7500
Spoilers: Up to s3
Warnings: warnings for implied child-abuse and rape
Summary: Hookerfic that leads to first-time wincest.
Reccer’s comments: This is hurty and gritty in a way that I really appreciated. But, thankfully for my heart, it ends on a hopeful note in a way that works for the fic.
Title:
The Words in the PictureAuthor:
fleshflutterTags: prostitution, child abuse, psychological issues, secrets (somebody finds out)
Characters: Dean, Sam
Genre/pairing: genfic mostly + mild Dean/OMC
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: 3124
Spoilers: None
Warnings: fairly non-graphic child abuse
Summary: Everything's for sale, even if Sam and Dean disagree on the price.
Reccer’s comments: This was incredibly realistic, with flawless characterizations and a nice, subdued mood. Also, I love fics where Sam discovers something about Dean he didn’t know like this.
Title:
Robbing PeterAuthor:
ginzaiTags: childhood trauma, crying!Dean, hugs, sexual assault/abuse (non-con), prostitution, psychological issues
Characters: John, Dean, Sam, Bobby
Genre/pairing: pre-series gen, hurt/comfort
Rating: R (rated by reccer)
Word-count: 5750
b>Spoilers: None
Warnings: Contains explicit foul language and references to violence, sexual violence, and prostitution. Also hurt!Dean, which is sadly kind of a given in my stories. Slight AU in that John here found out about Adam years before he did in canon.
Summary: John's attempt to catch a few stolen moments of peace wind up costing him far more than he can bear.
Reccer’s comments: This is very, very good. It expertly highlights both the best and worst traits of John's, and I love it.
Title:
End Without SoundAuthor:
girl_wonderTags: prostitution
Characters: Dean, Sam, OCs
Genre/pairing: Dean/OMC, Dean/OFC
Rating: R
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: Slight for 3x08.
Warnings: prostitution
Summary: It's always easier to just not say anything.
Reccer’s comments: I love the stark writing style. It works wonderfully well with the subject matter. This one is all too believable.
Title:
We Drank a Thousand TimesAuthor:
glorious_spoonTags: prostitution, emotional pain/hurt
Characters: Dean, Sam, John, Cassie, OMC
Genre/pairing: Dean/OMC, brief Dean/Cassie
Rating: R, for adult themes and semi-graphic sex
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: Season one
Warnings:
hereSummary: They meet in a bar fight in North Carolina when Dean is nineteen, broke, and desperate, then again when a hunt brings the Winchesters into town a few years later. Neither one of them ever puts a name to it but every once in a while, through the years, Dean finds his way back.
Reccer’s comments: This story isn't about prostitution and reccing it here is a bit of a spoiler, but I really love the understated way it's worked in.
Title:
Five Times Dean Winchester Gave a BlowjobAuthor:
ifyouweremineTags: child abuse, prostitution, non-con
Characters: Sam, Dean, John, OCs
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean, OMC’s/Dean
Rating: R
Word-count: 428
Spoilers: None
Warnings: Incest, underaged sex, non-con, prostitution, angst
Summary: What it says on the tin.
Reccer’s comments: A short fic that packs quite a punch. At times painful, and other times, hot.
Title:
It's a Mile From Here to GloryAuthor:
ivy03Tags: prostitution
Characters: Dean, John, Sam, Pastor Jim
Genre/pairing: Pre-series hooker story, hence…
Rating: R
Word-count: 7,600
Spoilers: None
Warnings: Discussions of under-aged sex.
Summary: When John dug into the bottom of Dean's duffel to get the last of the dirty socks that had been sitting in there, probably, since the last time John had caved and done the laundry, he found a roll of bills. Tens and twenties, mostly, held together with a black binder clip. It was close to five hundred dollars.
Reccer #1 says: It's easy to forget Ivy's ominous opening when faced with a picture of Winchester domesticity: two bickering teenagers and a father's eye-rolling patience for it. Of course, that soon changes when John finally follows Dean out one night... You know it's an old fic when there's a healing trip to Pastor Jim's. <3
Reccer #2 says: Seconded! And there’s also a sequel,
Dear Lovey Hart.
Title:
Simple as PieAuthor:
jackfan2Tags: possession, injury (misc.)
Characters: Dean, Sam
Genre/pairing: gen
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: about 5,581 words
Spoilers: None
Warnings: No spoilers but Sam finds himself in a compromising position with his brother, well, sort of his brother. It's more crack than fic.
Summary: Ghost of a male stripper... err... exotic dancer, is possessing men and dragging them back to his former club to give one last big show. The fact that all the victims so far have been thirty year old men with light hair and green eyes makes Sam wonder how wise it is for him and Dean to take the job. Dean assures him absolutely nothing will go wrong.
Dean is quickly proven wrong.
Reccer’s comments: This may not qualify, as it's a stripper!fic, but if we're going with a general theme of sex worker... This one is pure crack squeebait. I giggled and shrieked and blushed. Dean is possessed by the lingering spirit of a stripper, havoc ensues, a good time is had by all.
Title:
Little Black BookAuthor:
jeyhawk @
jeyhawk-ficTags: hospitalization, injury (misc.), prostitution, secrets (somebody finds out)
Characters: Sam, Dean
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean, romance with a touch of angst
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: 1793
Spoilers: Early seasons.
Warnings: None
Summary: At the bottom of Dean's bag, Sam finds a notebook...
Reccer’s comments: Hooker!Dean isn't really the focus of the story, but I like the way the theme is woven into the general plot of the story. Plus, who doesn't love Sam going through Dean's duffel and finding out unexpected things about his brother?
Title:
I Don’t Shine (If You Don’t Shine)Author:

Characters: Dean, Sam, Castiel, OMCs
Genre/pairing: slight Dean/Castiel, mentioned past Dean/OMCs
Rating: R
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: None
Warnings: Mentions of past prostitution
Summary: Five things Dean Winchester is proud of (and one he isn’t.)
Reccer’s comments: A neat little character study of Dean.
Title:
be with me when the horses run until they forget they are horsesAuthor:
maerhysTags: dub-con, prostitution
Genre/pairing: Dean/OMC, Sam/Dean. Pre-series.
Rating: R
Word-count: 4,060
Spoilers: None
Warnings: dubious consent
Summary: Dean will do anything to make sure that Sam has what he needs.
Reccer’s comments: Vibrantly written, this is a gorgeous, achy look at the trope of hooker!Dean.
Title:
Fumbling Towards EcstacyAuthor:
mytimehaspassed @
andletmestandTags: non-con, prostitution, secrets (somebody finds out)
Characters: Sam, Dean
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean; (non-con) John/Dean; Dean/OMC
Rating: R (rated by reccer)
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: None
Warnings: non-censual sex; allusions to abuse; prostitution
Summary: You get up to see if you can steal the bathroom from Dean, but he’s not there and you get the strangest feeling like something’s wrong. Like he could be hurt or dead or something.
Reccer’s comments: The author’s writing style is unique and refreshing. This is a dark fic, but full of emotion, full of love too.
Title:
Turn to Face the Strange ChangesAuthor:
paperbkryterTags: pretty!Dean, prostitution, secrets (somebody finds out)
Characters: Dean, Sam, OMC
Genre/pairing: Dean/OMCs, pre-series
Rating: R (rated by reccer)
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: None
Warnings: underage prostitution
Summary: If asked, Dean probably wouldn't have said he had a bad childhood.
Reccer’s comments: When the Winchesters settle down for a couple years in one place, and John isn’t around much, Dean does what he has to to provide for Sam and himself. I like the matter-of-fact way Dean decides to go down the road he does here; it works very well.
Title:
All We HaveAuthor:
Pissed Off EskimoTags: non-con, prostitution, psychological issues
Characters: Dean, Sam, others
Genre/pairing: Dean/Other (overall: series will be Wincest), AU
Rating: R (hard)
Word-count: 11,741
Spoilers: None. Pre-series
Warnings: non-con; prostitution
Summary: With Dad missing, Dean does what he has to.
Reccer’s comments: The beginning of this story is like one long written flinch on Dean's behalf. And it's not that the writing is poor--on the contrary, the style and pacing are superb. Rather, you can feel the boys' desperation as the days begin to stretch out with no sign of John. Sam's fear and confusion and Dean's anger and desperation are the opening notes to a deeply satisfying orchestra that follows the Winchester brothers from their adolescence through the Stanford years and right up to the inevitable return of their long lost father. Dean's inability to deal with his past in a healthy way has realistic and well thought-out repercussions throughout the entire story without being overblown or dramatic and Sam's deft handling of his brother is equally pleasing. This is my favorite flavor of the Winchester boys: Sam&Dean against the world, no matter what--or who--may come their way.
Title:
Halo (In Reverse)Author:
poisontasterTags: prostitution
Characters: Dean, Sam, etc.
Genre/pairing: Dean/others (Dean/OMC, Dean/OFC)
Rating: R-NC-17
Word-count: 4934
Spoilers: Mostly pre-series; some dialogue and action lifted from the pilot.
Warnings: Underage sex. Underage prostitution. Prostitution. Violence. Language. General fuck-upedness.
Summary: “I need your help, son,” Dad says, putting his hand on Dean’s shoulder and looking at him seriously, like man to man. “You’re going to have to step up.”
"Yeah, Dad,” Dean says in reply, shocked that Dad even has to ask. “’Course I will.”
Reccer’s comments:
poisontaster does that thing where she explores all those tricky shades of grey in her beautiful, unflinching prose. It's a little gutting.
Title:
In My Brother's KeepingAuthor:
poisontasterTags: prostitution
Characters: Dean, Sam
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean, AU
Rating: R
Word-count: 4,753
Spoilers: None. AU.
Warnings: Graphic m/m incest. Dark themes. Prostitution. Angst.
Summary: “What do you do?"
Reccer’s comments: This is probably one of the most well known rentboy!Dean fics in fandom, but I never get tired of reading it. Like all of
poisontaster’s work, the story speaks for itself: at its heart, one day Dean lost Sam and then one day Sam found Dean. And no one else could have told the tale with the biting clarity and the understated, but unflinchingly darkness illustrated here. A must-read for any fan of Sam or Dean and wincest.
Title:
I Guess We Know The ScoreAuthor:
purple_carpetsTags: childhood_trauma, cuts/lacerations, daddy_issues, hunger/starvation, injury, self-esteem_issues, nausea/vomiting, pretty!Dean, secrets (somebody finds out), prostitution
Characters: Dean, Sam, John
Genre/pairing: pre-series gen
Rating: R
Word-count: 2000
Spoilers: None. Pre-series.
Warnings: Language (duh) and teenage prostitution. Nothing graphic though.
Summary: Sometimes Dad doesn't leave them nearly enough money. Sammy gets hungry, Dean doesn't know any other way out.
Reccer’s comments: The author is one of my favorites, mainly because of her spot-on characterizations and the way she highlights the family dynamics so skillfully. The quality of the writing doesn't hurt either. What really made this for me were the justifications Dean and John laid on thick as peanut butter.
Title:
The Glamorous LifeAuthor:
rivkatTags: supernatural trauma, supernatural illness, dubcon, noncon, prostitution
Characters: Sam, Dean, Bobby
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean, Dean/Others
Rating: Explicit
Word-count: 44245
Spoilers: None
Warnings: At least as many issues of consent as you’d expect. There’s also non-incubus nonconsensual sex.
Summary: Dean's infected by an incubus. Complications ensue.
Reccer’s comments: I've read this fic a dozen times and it never gets old.
rivkat's work is always awesome and she definitely delivers in this fic. Possessive, desperate!Sam is always a favorite, and Bobby's a brilliant supporting character. But really, the thing that makes this fic is Dean. He's so painfully in-character in circumstances that are simultaneously tragic and almost ridiculous (because who else but Dean could find himself in such a mess?) that his actions are perfectly logical when the situation is viewed through Dean-goggles . . . Even though you spend the a good chunk of the fic hoping that Sam strangles him as soon as he saves him. All in all, a fandom classic.
Title:
TrickingAuthor:
rivkatTags: Dean’s deal, prostitution, psychological issues, jail/prison
Characters: Sam, Dean
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: Up to s3
Warnings: mentions of prostitution
Summary: Dean's permanent record has the facts, but not the truth. Sam has some trouble with the difference.
Reccer’s comments: A totally different take on this trope than I’ve ever read, this is hot and unsettling. It features some seriously dysfunctional, co-dependent brothers, which is just the way I like them.
Title:
Where A Man Can Be KingAuthor:
scribblinlenore @
highwaymilesTags: prostitution
Characters: Dean, OC
Genre/pairing: Dean/OMC
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: N/A
Warnings: prostitution
Summary/prompt: 169, Dean has to get to *insert state* to meet Sam and kill an *insert demon* when the Impala breaks down in the middle of nowhere. The only garage in 200 miles doesn't take credit cards, and Dean's only currency is $2 in change and his 'pretty mouth'.
Reccer’s comments: Disturbing and engaging. It’s difficult to write from the POV of an unlikeable narrator and have it work this well.
Title:
The Black Line Below MeAuthor:
smilla02Tags: emotional pain/hurt, prostitution, dub-con
Characters: Dean, Sam, John
Genre/pairing: Gen (Dean/OMC), pre-series
Rating: R
Word-count: 4,170
Spoilers: None
Warnings: dub-con, underage sexual activities (Dean's 17). Broken timeline.
Summary: It's not about money.
Reccer’s comments: I love how subtle the writing is here; it's so quietly heartbreaking. <3 <3 <3
Title:
This dark shroud hides a face beneath it (Underside Remix)Author:
subterrainTags: prostitution
Characters: Dean, Sam, OCs
Genre/pairing: Dean/OMC(s)
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: None
Warnings: underage sex, prostitution, underage prostitution, violence, etc.
Summary: These are the things Dean does for his family.
Reccer #1 says: This is one of the more explicit takes on the genre and pretty depressing, but one of my absolute favourites, too. Having Dean hook up with a privileged college kid is brilliant and poignant and I'm surprised I haven't seen it done more often. There's a resigned, disconnected tone to the prose that I find very effective.
Reccer #2 says: This is hard-hitting and visceral, and absolutely one of my absolute fave takes on this trope.
Title:
as if we'd never metAuthor:
thatotherpervTags: prostitution, child abuse
Characters: Dean, John
Genre/pairing: pre-series AU, (story spoilers): along with Dean/OMCs, this fic is primarily John/Dean, but they're strangers.
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: 7000
Spoilers: None
Warnings: underage prostitution (he's 17 in the fic), incest, allusion to child abuse if you connect the dots. Angsty like a mo-fo.
Summary: Dean Winchester was kicked into the foster system when he was 4 years old…when he was 14, he kicked himself out of it. Bottom line is, men enjoy fucking little boys all across this great nation. Dean figures if he's gonna spend the rest of his life with sick fuckers staring at his mouth, he'd better be making some cash.
Reccer’s comments: If this is a pairing that isn’t your thing, you may still be able to appreciate this. I definitely did! It’s an incredible AU, and the ways it ties back into canon are just perfect.
Title:
Kant’s DoveAuthor:
tryfanstoneTags: prostitution, injury (misc.) burns, pain, emotional pain/hurt
Characters: Sam, Dean
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean, AU
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: 34,000
Spoilers: None
Warnings: Features angel!Sam and hooker!Dean, drug use, profanity, blasphemy, and some damn fine maple pancakes. Please also note: in this story, there is an explosion in which numbers of people die. It's seen peripherally, but there are moral issues involved, and I'd rather you knew about it in advance.
Summary: In a dystopian paradise angel Inquisitor Samuel and rogue human Dean are uneasy allies. Together, they could knock their world from its foundations, but both of them have secrets to keep.
Reccer’s comments: The author had me at ‘dystopia.’ <3 I actually don’t usually go for anything this AU, but the world-building here was just so masterful. Original and epic.
Title: In Shadow,
on LJ or
on ff.net with a few extra chapters [WIP]
Author:
unholymuseTags: injury, infected wounds, fever, psychological issues, non/dub-con
Characters: Dean, Sam, John, Bobby, Caleb, OMCs, OFCs
Genre/pairing: AU, pre-series gen with Dean/OMCs and Dean/OFC in some chapters
Rating: R (for language, violence, and mature subject matter)
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: None. Pre-series.
Warnings: non-con, underaged sex, prostitution
Summary: AU. Sometime in 1988 John Winchester is arrested after he takes out a pack of werewolves (and is naturally considered a 'serial killer' by the local authorities). The boys are put in separate foster homes and grow up in very different lifestyles. The point at which this story begins, the boys have already been separated for five years. Their struggles living apart, and their fateful reunion will be the however many hours' traffic of our stage.
Reccer’s comments: First things first, this is a WIP and updates are slow to come (most likely due to the long chapter lengths). And the fic is so engrossing that it deserves a warning for being in progress since reaching the end of a chapter normally makes you want to shake your computer in the hopes that it will make another chapter magically appear. But this fic is well worth the angst of waiting for the next post. Young, protective!Sam is magnificent and Dean's very real trauma is beautifully orchestrated, even if the author occasionally lays the hits on him a bit thickly. My favorite part of this story, though, is probably the floundering inadequacies of Dean's apple-pie foster parents as they try to sort out what to do with the damaged hell-raiser they've had a hand in breaking. Even if it never gets finished, In Shadows is more than worth the time to read (repeatedly . . . like a stalker hunting for a new chapter...) because this is one of those stories that sticks with you long after you've closed the browser.

Characters: Dean, Castiel
Genre/pairing: brief Dean/OMC, Dean/Castiel
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: 2936
Spoilers: General spoilers through 5.22
Warnings: prostitution
Summary: Dean stands up, and as the stranger tucks himself back into his pants, there is a shuffling, shifting movement and Castiel sees the green tint of bills as they are passed from the stranger’s hands into Dean’s.
Reccer’s comments: This is past!Dean, as seen through Castiel’s eyes. Beautiful Cas POV, beautiful execution.

Don't Ask, Don't TellAuthor:
winterliveTags: hunger, prostitution
Characters: Sam, Dean
Genre/pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: Season one
Warnings: None
Summary: The first time, Sam doesn't know what the hell is going on. They haven't eaten in two states; they're hungry and almost out of gas besides.
Reccer’s comments: This story features a violently protective Sam who is especially believable now, five seasons on.
Title:
Dear heart, how like you this?Author:
yamataiTags: prostitution, secrets (somebody finds out), psychological issues, injury (misc.), hospitalization
Characters: Dean, Sam
Genre/pairing: Offscreen Dean/OMC.
Rating: PG-13 (rated by reccer)
Word-count: N/A
Spoilers: None
Warnings: Hooker!fic; very vague mentions of underage.
Summary/prompt: Wee!hooker!Dean. Adult!Sam somehow finds out that on a handful of occasions, back when they were young and John left them behind to go on a hunt, they'd run out of money and Dean had to hit the streets to make ends meet. He never told anyone, because at the age of twelve John expected him to take care of Sammy, and this was one way of doing it. Cue adult!Sam being suitably horrified at this revelation - I want confrontation and angst that, if possible, ends in fluffy brotherly schmoop.
Reccer’s comments: This is so, so fantastic. I love the way the author incorporated the case, and, just, everything. How much Dean and Sam care for each other is so evident here.

Five Times Dean Winchester Burned Alone and One Time He Didn'tAuthor:
yellow_pomeloTags: amnesia/memory loss, burns, common old, concussion/head trauma, cough, cuts/lacerations, drowning/near drowning, fainting/collapse, fever, hell/post-hell issues, hugs/cuddling, emotional pain/hurt, prostitution, self-esteem issues
Genre/pairing: first five parts are gen, last part is Dean/Castiel
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: 9,500
Warnings: Underage prostitution, dub/non-con, descriptions of Hell and Hell-related things.
Summary: Six different scenes that take place at six different times in Dean's life.
Reccer’s comments: This is one that’s stuck with me ever since I read it. It features many other concepts besides the theme of this rec post as well. Each section is a gorgeous little snapshot of what it means to be Dean.
Title:
Through Those Cold NightsAuthor:
yellow_pomeloTags: non-con, physical assault/abuse, prostitution
Characters: Dean, Castiel, OMCs
Genre/pairing: Dean/Castiel, Dean/OMCs, pre-series
Rating: NC-17
Word-count: 5, 200
Spoilers: You're safe if you know who Castiel is.
Warnings: Underage prostitution, some non-con/dub-con.
Summary: Pre-series; It's cold and Dean's freezing, but motel rooms don't rent themselves and fridges don't magically restock.
Reccer’s comments: Although I read this a while ago, I remember that it was a refreshing take on a set of very familiar tropes. Dean hustles (pre-series) to take care of Sam; Castiel appears as the strange but noble knight-in-shining-trench-coat.
My original comments: I like especially the non-exploitative quality of the interactions here, and the believability of the setting. They work well together to craft a tiny little world that spins on its own. Lovely and poetic. ....The characterization sells it. [This is] a nice, poetic fic that breathes new life into some old tropes.
