If I don't find a job before then, this fall, I'll sign up to be a substitute teacher. The only question is where. I would feel more comfortable subbing in Anchorage, where I've subbed before. Also, I'm told there's an open long-term sub position available at an elementary school's Japanese immersion program, and they're desperate for anyone who ( Read more... )

If you go with subbing, I would recommend Anchorage. Especially if the long-term gig is available (and they contacted you about it?). The pay is $120/day for the first 20 days you sub up here, $140/day after that. And long-term pay is based on the amount of education you have. I raked in a crap ton of money (something like $270/day) due to my degrees when I long-term subbed. Look into what the rates are down there for subbing and see if that doesn't help you make a decision. ;)

And I miss you terribly too.

If you love Alaska and there's a job they already want to give you, surely we could do some sort of kickstarter to get you there?

I'm just not sure what I want right now. If I did decide to head up to Alaska, my brother-in-law (who travels for work) would very likely kick in some air miles to get me a ticket. That's because my oldest sister really, really wants family up there again. And I could stay with them during the transition period. Still, it's overall a logistical nightmare for a lot of reasons.

Oh, well. I have another month to decide.

I am finishing my MA in TESOL - and honestly, I know there are schools that will allow you to take the courses online.

Good luck with your journey - wherever it may take you!
