So, what districts would the Avengers be from? Natasha and Clint, I'm thinking, are no-brainers for a couple of Careers from Two. Tony would be from Three, the tech district. Thor would be from Five, which produces electric power, since he's all about the lightning.

Can't place Bruce or Steve, though. Anybody got any thoughts?

hunger games, thinky thoughts, the avengers

Steve Rogers would be from District 9; that district has lots of factories and therefore would probably have a poor urban area. (And Steve was a little boy in Manhattan when the Depression hit, the child of poor Irish immigrants...so yeah, I'd say District 9.)

Bruce would be from District 6--he's a scientist and SOMEONE in that district must know something about biochemistry and narcotics to keep coming up with the drug "morphling."

alsdjflsakfjsalkjdsa DON'T TEMPT ME.

Steve is one of the farming/agriculture Districts to me, 9-11. He's not quite the ~all-American farmboy~, but he definitely gives off that general vibe to me. I like Bruce for 13, but since that would keep him out of the Games, maybe 5? There might be potential for all kinds of sciency accidents there... Although I could see him being friends with Tony in 3...

And Nick Fury is one of their trainers, and he sends them in with a secret plan to BLOW THESE GAMES WIDE OPEN by partnering with the other Avengers, leading to the overthrow of the Capitol. Yeah!

Steve does kinda have that "farmboy" thing going on, even though he's a boy from the city. It's how old-fashioned he is in modern days.

This idea is amazing.

(I bet Agent Coulson is someone's mentor, since he's pretty much the antithesis of the Capitol's showiness. Maybe he won his Games by being unobtrusive and getting everyone to discount him in favor of more immediate threats. And then surprising everyone, including the Gamemakers.)

THIS IS THE WRONG THING FOR ME TO READ WHEN I'M DROWNING IN TWO-FEELS. OR THE RIGHT THING. (I was imagining Fury in D13 in a Coin-like role, but this is SO MUCH BETTER.)

That's what I mean about Steve: I think that fits, not for the specifics but the essence of him, if that makes sense? Like, if he took some OkCupid personality quiz called What District Are You?, that's where he'd be.

Oh how I would love Natasha and Clint to be Careers. Actually, I'd love Natasha to be from 13 and then she is sent into 1 or 2 as a spy and, you know, somehow it is useful for her to volunteer for the games.

Also, I'd actually put Tony in the capital with tutors from 3 due to his inherited wealth. And then ummm maybe he was kidnapped and swapped in the staging ground? And it was some horrific scandal? Or something?

Maybe the scandal was a generation previously? Capitol maven falls in love with inventor from District Three (or maybe even a previous Victor, that could also explain inherited wealth), breaks a long-standing engagement and elopes to the provinces. How shocking! And then their only son is called at the Reaping, and either it's the tragic end to their doomed love story, or everyone knew they'd come to a bad end, depending on the Capitol citizen telling the tale and how jaded/closely related to the jilted fiance(e) they are.

I'm having trouble seeing a Victor going into weapons manufacturing and still being as well-adjusted as we see Howard Stark being in Captain America, but it's possible. Doesn't even need to be weapons, although focusing on the arc reactors alone might make me lean more towards Five. (Although Jarvis would put them firmly back in the Three camp, I suppose.)
