Yeah, that's pretty much the strategy at the moment. She won't confront them until she's forced to, and she's definitely not going to be hunting down other tributes. But she's gotta work on her woodcraft, poor girl.
The Doctor is not happy, no. He's done this far too many times, watched a tribute he's gotten attached to go through the arena. Mostly, they die. He hopes Rose will do better, but that means he can't give her any help until it's absolutely necessary.
I like these one-a-day updates. Making us wait longer is cruel and unusual punishment :)
Well, Adam certainly didn't last long. Good riddance, I say. Martha is way better; and suspiciously absent. She'll show up next time, I assume?
And she... she cut her hair...! Why?! Why would she cut her hair?! I understand the circumstances, but just don't let anyone get close enough again and you can still have long hair! *is sad* None of the people in the movie seemed to have a problem with it...
No, this will be one-a-day updates until Part 1 is completely posted. Part 2 will get similar treatment.
Adam just didn't have it in him. He made a choice he thought would help him, and it backfired completely--like on the show. And we will meet Martha next chapter. She is indeed doing better. Much better.
Rose cutting her hair is a visceral response. Because Toby grabbed her ponytail, she'll never feel safe with her hair long, not in the arena. Might've been different if Jack had braided it down close to her head. As it is, though, for her, in the state of mind she was in right after the Cornucopia, cutting her hair off seemed like the only sane option. In Part 2, that action will pay dividends.
Yeah, there was really no choice. She didn't do it deliberately, but he was mortally wounded. The kindest thing was to make it quick. The Doctor and Donna know what it'll do to her, and they also know, if she is to survive, it won't be her last kill.
Poor Lynda. She really was out of her depth. But Martha is doing much better.
OMG Rose's hair and the Doctor's reaction to it, heartbreaking. Rose's first kill was gut wrenching. See ya Adam.
I got some serious goose bumps when the wolf appeared to Rose, and then the mockingjay sang it's song.
It is good to see Rose doing well, but hard to watch her struggle with the isolation in the Arena. What she really needs is an ally, but that is dangerous too.
How true: And the worst was that she couldn’t even really blame the Careers. They were as much a product of the culture as any of their victims. Someone had taken them and molded them into killers who cared less about human lives than about squirrel guts on their boots.
I am totally hooked on this AU. Thank you for posting.
He's hurting for her right now. He knows how it feels in the arena, how it feels to have to kill to survive. And he knows, if she survives, she's got a long road ahead of her.
Yeah, the wolf and the mockingjay . . . hehehe.
Basically, she is doing well. Struggling, but she's still alive and strong. Will it be enough, though?
The Careers are, in some ways, the saddest of them all. Imagine children being taught that their greatest worth is in killing other children, and that it's an honor to volunteer to do so. It's not right, but they're doing what they've been trained for all their lives.
Ooooh, I love the bit with the wolf and the mockingjay - very nicely done, I've got chills. o.o
It's so sad, watching all those tributes Rose had lunch with drop one by one, especially Lynda and Sunshine, I quite liked them. I'm glad Rose didn't have to kill them, though. Not at all sad about Adam, but I've never liked him, so that's not surprising, lol.
I love this... unrest you've created between the Careers - can't wait to see how Rose uses that to her advantage, as she no doubt will.
Rose has always been social, so, for her, watching the tributes she liked, the ones she might've been friends with, go down is one of the hardest parts of this for her. It's one thing that sets her apart from Katniss. Katniss kept to herself and tried not to let any of the others in. Except for Rue and Thresh, she doesn't have any reaction to their deaths. Rose can't operate like that, though, and it'll make things harder on her.
The Careers aren't exactly a happy family, no. And that's something that'll be of use later on.

Adam's not much of a loss, but poor Lynda! :( (Not that she fared much better in canon...) Can't wait to see how Martha is doing.
