Just finished Witches Abroad

Granny Weatherwax is hardcore, yo.

Finished Making Money yesterday. I'm not sure there's a scene in literature that will ever be more hysterically funny than the "courtroom" scene with Mr. Fusspot and his, er, toy.

Discworld is craaaaaaack . . .

books, discworld

Granny Weatherwax drinks a cup of tea like Clint Eastwood smokes a cigar. I'm pretty sure she could out-badass Sam Vimes and Vetinari combined.

Yeah, I would not like to see those three in a room together. It could be, um, explosive.

Granny Weatherwax DEFINES hardcore.

She seriously does. It's a good thing she's so set against witches being rulers, because the Disc would not stand a chance.

Have you read Carpe Jugulum yet? Because she is intense in that. And gives the best definition of sin ever. And shows the difference between true belief and being nice. And oh, yes--she kicks ass. AGAIN.

Next up is Lords and Ladies.

And for the first time, I get your icon, which is doubly funny because Maggie Smith keeps showing up as Granny while I'm reading. I'm not making any attempt at having PBs for the witches, but Maggie Smith is an obvious choice, isn't she?

Granny Weatherwax is the scariest person on the Disc. INCLUDING Death, Susan, and Mr. Teatime...

Mr. Teatime had to go up against Susan because he'd never make it past his first confrontation against Granny. (I note that she tends not to be part of the books where the bad guy is a psychotic. Granny wouldn't break stride when she went right over them.)

Mr. Fusspot can be a riot, especially when his enthusiasm runs rampant. But it's nice that Pratchett can do subtle as well - the scene when Mr. Slant comes to inform Moist of Topsy's bequest, accompanied by Angua and Nobby (who Moist strongly suspects is the Watch's werewolf) does that nicely, with Angua absent-mindedly squeaking Mr. Fusspot's rubber bone every now and again...

Witches Abroad is one of my most favorite books EVER. (Rapidly followed by Lords and Ladies, which is all the things that the first Witches book tried to be and missed, IMO.)

I want to be Granny when I grow up.

And yes - that courtroom scene is priceless, although I also like the one where Mr. Fusspot makes a play for Angua.

You've probably read enough books to "get" it now - has anyone ever pointed you at the fic "The Dalek Invasion of Discworld"? Too funny!

No, no one's ever pointed me that direction, but I would very much like it if someone would!
