Fic: "Letting Go"

Jan 03, 2010 22:14

So, I committed ficcage. Last year, I had a terrible bout with writer's block. Well, that ends now. I shall apply the butt glue and churn out stories this year whether I like it or not. In fact, I intend to post a story (or at least a chapter) a week for--oh, I think I can sustain that a couple of months. Take the odd week off here or there ( Read more... )

I loved this quiet, brief fic. It's heartbreaking, but hopeful - just like regenerations should be.

Thank you. There's always heartbreak in saying goodbye, but I have great hopes for Eleven. Just as he has great hopes even for those he left behind.

This is VERY plausible - I was thinking last night that one of the things about regeneration is that it gives you a good reason to get over things and move on to something new.

And since the trailer for the next season strongly implies at least one other romantic interest showing up I think he really has enough to handle!

Yeah, I think he's ending the post-Time War phase of his life now. If EoT2 settled anything, it's that he did the right thing in pushing the button. He can begin his new life knowing that. Might make it easier for him.

But he does have to let go of the old, and that even includes the woman he was in love with for two lifetimes. It saddens me, but it's time. He has so much to do, still.

It did. "The deed finally done" is the recycling of the room. Sorry if I misled!

It hurts, but it hurts in a necessary way, a proper way. This is what should happen, and you wrote it in your own elegant style, with quiet depth and an intelligent feel for each of the companions to whom Eleven was saying goodbye (I loved the personalities you illustrated through room decor, Martha and Donna in particular.) Thanks for writing this!

I suppose this story's not so much a character study of Eleven--all I know about him is the core "Doctor" personality and not the nuances he'll bring to it--but of those he's saying goodbye to.

For some reason, Martha's and Donna's rooms are always very clear to me. Rose's and Jack's vary, but I always know that Martha's room is all neat, clean lines (though she doesn't make the bed, apparently a woman after my own heart), and Donna's is positively royal. That's as constant as the little wobble I absolutely know the TARDIS's kitchen table has.

I loved this, even if it did make me cry at 8am! I love him slowly going through the rooms, acknowledging the importance of his companions and saying goodbye to them as he gets ready to move on.

Fabulous stuff :)

Aww, thanks! It's a little ritual I felt Eleven needed before he can fully say goodbye to the man he was. He's got a whole new phase of his life ahead of him.
