Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire

My fourth book for ljbookbingo is Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire for the Written by A Local Author square, table found here:

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity-and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and is spending a year in Manhattan while she pursues her career in professional ballroom dance. Sounds pretty simple, right? It would be, if it weren't for the talking mice, the telepathic mathematicians, the asbestos supermodels, and the trained monster-hunter sent by the Price family's old enemies, the Covenant of St. George. When a Price girl meets a Covenant boy, high stakes, high heels, and a lot of collateral damage are almost guaranteed. To complicate matters further, local cryptids are disappearing, strange lizard-men are appearing in the sewers, and someone's spreading rumors about a dragon sleeping underneath the city... ~Amazon Book Description

I wasn't sure I had any author's on my TBR that were local but I was really thrilled to learn that Seanan McGuire hales from California.  I actually really enjoyed this book. I have heard about Seanan McGuire for awhile but I was never sure where to start as she is quite the prolific writer. Once I read the description to this book I was very intrigued. The world building was so well done. I loved the way she had cryptids living among humanity, even through most people are never aware of that fact. The Price family help both cryptids and humans coexist as peacefully as possible. Verity Price is in New York trying to be a ballroom dancer and keep up the family business. I really liked Verity she is tough, mouthy, and prefers parkour over cabs and can kick some major ass. The one downside was her love interest/antagonist was a bit bland and he really didn't intrigue me all that much. The story moved along quickly and I was never bored and it wrapped up nicely so no cliffhanger.  This is the first in a series of at least 7 books so thankfully I have plenty more Price family to read.
