Memoirs of a Zookeeper's Daughter

I'm dense. It's taken this long to figure out just why I have such mixed feelings about Steve Irwin and his death. It's about my dad.

Great story. I never knew that about your father...that is awesome!

I believe it about the deer. Years ago, I toured the coast of California and part of the tour was two heavenly, amazing days in Yosemite. We were warned specifically about the deer. Most people have this image of them being very tame...like "Bambi" when indeed they are wild animals. People were worried about bears and other "wild" animals, but more people got killed or injured by deer than by any other animal in that park.

The death of Steve Irwin bothered me for a couple of reasons...one, while I admit that I did not watch his shows very often (although I caught it in reruns)...when I did see the show, I thought it was awesome, both in its entertainment value and educational value. It's sad to think that what we have now is all that will be. He also cared so much about the animals and his father had it right when he said at the memorial service not to grieve for him, Terri or the children, but to grieve for the animals as they have lost their best friend ( ... )
