Thanksgiving Disaster

Dec 02, 2010 01:03

Thanksgiving was both fun and a disaster and a half. My Aunt Jan lives up in Washington state, and she came up with the wonderful idea to have Thanksgiving at my parent's new house up there (oh yeah, they bought a house within 20 minutes of Aunt Jan a few months ago; they're trying to rent it out until they can move up). If we went, we would be ( Read more... )

The four of us "kids" each got one seat crammed between one another and all the shit they decided was absolutely necessary to bring along. There was no room for any of us to stretch out at all, and we couldn't shift positions without interfering with each others' precious space. It was worse than an airplane. And for TWELVE FECKING HOURS. And of course, Mom and Dad didn't care about our situation because they had plenty of room, and that's all that matters, right?

Mom needs to learn how to pack efficiently. She was going to bring 16 rolls -- 16 ROLLS -- or toilet paper for 5-8 people for a 3-day trip. I managed to talk her down to 12, but we really didn't need even that much. Her reasoning? "It doesn't take up much room." Yeah, but when you take a gazillion unnecessary things that don't take up much room, THEY TAKE UP A LOT OF EFFING ROOM.

SHE BROUGHT CLEANING SUPPLIES FOR CRAP'S SAKE. AUNT JAN LIVES RIGHT THERE, HOW DOES MOM THINK SHE CLEANS HER HOUSE??

Seriously, if we hadn't brought all the unnecessary stuff, we would have had at least another seat available in the Pilot.

I pointed out that no one wanted to sit with Matthew because he literally smells like shit all the time.

You are my hero right now.

I really, really do not regret being around for Thanksgiving this year, not gonna lie. Sorry you had to put up with that all, it sounds like hell.

Gods I'd been wanting to say that for so damn long. Seriously, what 17 year old isn't responsible for showering on a daily basis? He goes for weeks without bathing! It's disgusting!

I'm kind of wishing I'd taken the six extra days to drive to Iowa and back so I could have crashed your Thanksgiving, hah.

Okay, that is fucking horrid. Get a fireman's hose. Spray him down.

He seems to have been a little bit better about bathing since I just came right out and said it. He accused me of being mean at the time, but egads man! Gross!

Well that's just terrible. Seriously who wants to be crammed up like that after just doing all the work to begin with.

Your family would give me a headache within five minutes, I'm sure.

You guys should spend Christmas with whichever family you'll be more comfortable with.

They do this crap ALL. THE. TIME. And I'm still somehow surprised whenever it happens. I will seriously give up all my holidays with them if this is how it will be.

We will more than likely be spending Christmas with Dan's family. I am NOT doing that again unless they buy me a plane ticket. Plus, we've only seen Dan's family for maybe three days since we moved up here in July, so. The only person I'm iffy about in his family is his younger sister -- if you've seen the posts I've made about her, you'll know why.

I don't think it sounds petty--I would have been incredibly pissed, too.

Thanks. It means a lot to me that ~neutral outsiders don't think I was being stupid or petty about a seat in a car.
