It seems to me that if one was writing about Dean and Benny in Purgatory, a major aspect of their journey would be that at night, it would make sense to sleep in shifts

Sleeping in shifts is also a good fictional technique because it allows for those strange, weirdly honest conversations that happen very late at night between two very tired people. I've only found myself doing it a few times but it's a very unique experience.
I feel like there's a lot of room for interesting interactions based on that setup, including the always classic 'letting the other person sleep and not waking them up for their shift because of your deep abiding love/loyalty/whatever for them.'
Unless you love them so much you let them keep sleeping way too long and you yourself fall asleep with your head on their butt and when you wake up it's sort of weird and also if you were in Purgatory or something probably just begging something to eat you but outside of Purgatory it's just the uncomfortable reality of waking up and knowing you used someone else's ass as a pillow I am speaking purely hypothetically of course no way did this happen to me nope no sir
Except who knows what monsters are in the trees. Eep!
And I don't see the mad cuddles happening. Actually with the new ep when Dean talks about praying to Cas 'every night,' my main response was 'Bzuh?' Why only at night? Was he like, kneeling by a rock to say prayers before bed?
I doubt he'd be necessarily stopping at night, or keeping a regular schedule anyway. It seems more likely he'd just sleep when he could, whenever and wherever that happened to be.
God there's a mental image I'll be struggling to scrub from my brain for a while.
I don't have a problem with the idea of stopping at night--it's better than blundering around the dark. But surely there would be times when you were staying put but staying awake? Like if you were being hunted by something that wouldn't break off just because the lighting had changed.
However...this also got me thinking that although at first it seemed like Dean was very vulnerable in Purgatory, what if he's really not? I mean the actual flashbacks we've seen so far involved a lot him killing things and chasing things and things being scared of him. So maybe he's not as vulnerable as I've been thinking.
So that's more fic I need! I should write it but I have this other thing I'm working on...*shifty eyes*
