rl blather: food

Hiked six miles on a breakfast of a piece of bread with cheese, and a nectarine. Worth it.

I always do that because I always want to go hiking before lunch. It's not like I deliberately make bad food/exercise choices.

I've also become the sort of person who when shopping for lunch bypasses the freshly-made pizza option for tofu and brown rice ( Read more... )

Bread and cheese and a nectarine actually seems like a pretty good pre-hike breakfast to me... carbs, protein, fruit, voila? I hike almost every day and often eat something similar. Maybe that means I'm not a grownup, LOL. One thing's for sure, I will rarely pass up pizza, although I do love tofu wildly!

All in all, it went better than expected--I didn't get nearly as ravenously hungry as I often do, and probably could've continued a few more miles.

I knew I'd hit adulthood the day I had extra time to do stuff and my first thought was, "Oh good, now I can clean the bathroom!"

I agree: that sounds like a capital hiking breakfast. I spend a lot of time climbing in the Rockies during the summer, and rarely feel like eating much in the early morning hours before the hike (food is for celebrating afterwards).

I do like me a nice freshly-made pizza, but mainly just the homemade type, preferably made out of whatever's in the garden at the time. Show me a slice of soggy bread smothered in sweaty mozzarella, and I will turn it down (to quote P. G. Wodehouse) like a bedspread.

When I was in high school they got rid of normal school lunches and started selling stuff made by fast food joints, including Pizza Hut. The crusts on those things was invariably yellow. From the grease. *shudders* Homemade is definitely the way to go.

I wanna go climbing in the Rockies! *whines* Ohio is flat flat flat. I miss mountains. *whines some more*

Oh dear Lord, the yellow crust....I never got that in a school lunch, but I did do six or seven years of the Book-It program, and I have not forgotten those terrifying personal pizzas.

I share your mountain-pain: I grew up around mountains, but now am stranded in cow country. Eleven months out of the year, I pine for anything taller and craggier than a hill.
