Quick, who here lives in an area where they *don't* test the tornado sirens every month?

Has anyone who lives in an area with no sirens ever visited/moved to an area where they *do* test the sirens and gone "Auugh!" the first time?

I don't think we have them in western WA. We're so screwed if a tornado hits around here. I did hear tsunami warning system being tested on the radio, and there are signs for the tsunami evacuation route along the coast.

Also, how convenient is it that you made this post? The Big Bang I'm trying to write vaguely has stuff to do with tornado sirens and all that, which seems like a really bad idea considering I've never lived in an area that had those sirens. Can I consult you at some point about the weather things if this story ever gets finished? (It's driving me up the wall, for rlz.)

Ironically, I just watched an Imax film called "Tornado Alley," all about, well, Tornado Alley. I've never ever seen a Tornado in person as I live on the coast but they a the must surreal thing I can imagine. As I was watching the film, I reached over to my sister and murmured, "those siren's would scare the shit out of me every time." And they do raise my hair just hearing them from a movie screening.

However, In Sidney, a small town on Vancouver Island, and a few of the smaller Gulf islands around the coast, they use their cold war sirens (tornado sirens) to call the volunteer firefighters. Every time I hear it, I have to convince tourists that duck and cover is not necessary. But yeah, the noise freaks me out a lot.
