Whoever is causing the whole busted-LJ, DDOS attacks, could you like... stop it? As Gianni asks, 'Shouldn't you be somewhere else?' Find something else to do that doesn't have to do with ruining my good LJ-time. *grumble*
Anyway, I'm sitting here taking a break from writing and musing on (
recent thoughts I've had about religion, god and spiritual stuff in general. )

It seems that nowadays, people are either super-religious or not at all.
Why should anyone need a supernatural something to believe in? Isn't it enough to have faith in yourself? In the people you allow to be part of your live? I don't like the thought of any deity pulling the strings. It's a lame excuse to not be held responsible (often used).
On the other hand, there is no harm whatsoever in ppl firmly believing in whatever they want to. Harm comes from those who try to convert others (not only speaking of religious issues here). This is truly dangerous. And a nuisance.
I lost the thread.
You got me thoughtful. Good thing.

Not getting into the religious discussion other than to say this: radical views by those fanatical enough to want to convert everyone to their belief system is the real danger. The danger does not lie in religion itself, nor in those who believe in that religion (or the lack of a deity, for that matter) who have no axe to grind with those who believe differently. I hope that the majority of folks fall into the latter category. I know I do. But fanatics are like the greasy wheel: it makes the most noise and gets the most attention.
I may not understand someone else's beliefs, nor agree with them, but I try to have the tolerance to understand that they have the right to believe or not as they see fit. I just don't want the "wild eyed-wonders" of any persuasion trying to force any shit on me. :D

I think religion as a whole/organization can create harm and discord, myself. Not necessarily the people that follow it, at least for the most part. Anything organized--religion, government, Enron lol, can eventually become corrupt from the inside and become inescapable, something the GOOD members of the organization can't escape from. In saying that, I trace it back to the ones who started it, NOT the followers. People probably bought Enron stock cos' it looked good. They didn't actually know of the crap going on behind-the-scenes. I see any follower that way; if you're not told the whole story, you can be easily duped and hurt.
And yea, your take should be EVERY-one's take: accept the things you cannot change, which includes people's minds and thoughts. :)

My experience has been that it's not the amount of time you spend praying or following the rituals of your religion that matter, but how you treat your fellow human beings and live your life. Rituals can, and often are, meaningless to the people who perform them. I've met Christians and people of other faiths who do live their faith, but from what I've seen that's the exception, not the rule.
On the other hand, I've met people who don't believe in God, but say they believe in spirituality or nature or whatever, but they live their lives they way 'religious' people should.
I still say 'Thank God' all the time. *ducks* But, for me it's usually just an expression. I rarely think God has anything to do with it when I use it.
