Amen, sister. Especially since the party in question could not be a sweeter, nicer person who certainly meant no harm. I've had this happen to me, when someone got on my case for posting a picture I wasn't supposed to. And the truth was, I got it from somewhere completely different and was not privy to the original post where it was stated that it should not be reposted (it was long before I joined the fandom). I'm with you. If you don't want someone to not post something somewhere else, then don't post it in the first place. Case closed.
Oh -- and I might add -- the only thing this mess has succeeded in doing is making everyone very curious about this picture and how to find a copy!

I'm late to the wank, but I have to say, I really think that building people's curiosity was the whole point of the wank to begin with. Free publicity.
I totally think credit is cool, but also unlikely to always happen. Tracing the ownership of something like an internet photo seems almost impossible to me.
It's in the Domlijah fandom, mainly, which can be totally fun (I endorse it ;))... except Fandom Wank would be all over this, as they ALWAYS have when it comes to LotR. Luckily, a lot of the stuff going on is friended, so it can't be posted about there.
Ah, well. All my knowledge in this is secondhand, but it's the same old song.
Thank you, this is well said- I'm extremely cross with all of this kerfluffle because of the effect on my friend (although she is not as upset as she was at first) She is not in the best of health either to deal with it.
All of this could have been avoided if those who staked a claim to the picture had actually thought before they reacted. The original apparently was not cropped. My friend's version is cropped. She is physically incapable of doing that-in fact she types her stories using a pencil, one key at a time, and has to ask her son to crop things for her when he can. She got the cropped version from an lj whose owner must have found it themselves -probably from the community concerned! Highly ironic really.
Funnily enough, the pic doesn't belong to anyone on that community either. It was not taken by them, but came from somewhere else. However, the owner of the community has made a great deal of effort to smooth things over now, so that's something but it could all have been avoided by using common sense.
I just don't get it. I don't even know what this pic consists of. Would I like to? Sure. I'm down with Domlijah-love, hard. But WOW, it's a good thing Fandom Wank doesn't allow friended posts to be posted there. They'd have a goddamned field day with it.
Either way, it's sad when the claws come out over something so trivial. I'll sit over here in the deadly silent Josh fandom, lolz. ;)
