I want to eat somewhere fun on Saturday. Cheapish. West Village, Chelsea, UWS? (Anywhere on the 1, really...).

Where do you think?

what kind of fun?

there's dragonfly, where we went for my birthday last year, and also vegetarian paradise II and red bamboo, which are owned by the same people and available in the same area.

there's tea and sympathy for cream tea service

i think those are the only specifics in that neyb that are "fun" that i've been to... i think you should just take the train to christopher street and walk around. you'll meet a new neyb more and find a delicious place to eat.

I think dragonfly is closed for renovations or something for a while....

What about what is it called? Floridita?

Also, I've done the whole dragonfly rb and vpII thing over and over...I need something new! Especially since I eat the animals now.

City Bakery on 7th Ave between 17th and 18th, I think. (the Little Red One to 23rd.)

It's like a salad bar, but not vegetables, and if your nicest lady friends cooked delectable foods from _The Moosewood Cookbook_. Couscous, beet creations, fresh breads, all kinds of beans and veggies, homemade soups, cornbread, fish, soba noodles with amazing sauces...

It's very casual, but the food is so amazing. Also, on the same street as the City Bakery are two wonderful and cool papergoods stores, a record store, and two bookstores. AND, a children's bookstore that is CONNECTED TO a CUPCAKE BAKERY!! So you can meander down the street, have a delicious meal filled with new things and old favorites, and then get a posh, lovely cupcake for dessert.

It's an event. And then, you can walk up to Washington Square Park and check out the market and so forth.

Wow. I can't believe that this time last year I still hadn't been on the subway. What has happened to me? : )

Oh, I so love thinking of the 1 as the Little Red One that Could! What an apropos phrase!

Thanks SO much for the advice, it sounds awesome. I so heart the Moosewood cookbook.

And I know, on Saturday, I GAVE SOMEONE DIRECTIONS. AAAAAAAAAAAA!
