500 Songs That Shaped Rock

This week's American Idol theme is "500 Songs That Shaped Rock," which includes songs from the 1950s-1990s (I didn't catch any songs from the 21st century on the list) in all aspects of rock n' roll, from early R&B and blues, motown and doo wop, psychedelic rock and folk, disco, punk and acid rock, all the way to grunge. I've gone through the list

I would have LOVED to hear Michael do Layla, it would have been amazing!

And I think Jason could do a really pretty version of Dream :)

I hope someone does Runaway by Del Shannon, for purely selfish reasons... it's one of my favourite songs ever.

eeee yes I love Del Shannon as well! I just didn't think anyone could/would do Runaway. (It's funny that you say that because I had that song in my head all day.)

Yay! You're probably right, I don't really think anyone could pull it off, but at least it would entertain us ;)

A South African artist recently covered it and it's pretty good but it's just not the same as the original.

i flailed SO MUCH at a lot of your choices. tonight is going to ROCK.

- the everly brothers, i freaking love them and i could definitely see Jason doing "Dream", but I really want him to do "Mr. Tambourine Man", homg.

- ahaha, if dcook does "he's a rebel", i will pretty much freak out and run to lj to read Radio Friendly again &hearts &hearts &hearts

- For Archie, "A Teenager In Love" would be adorable, no doubt. I could see him wanting to tackle "When a Man Loves A Woman" because it's so run-tastic, but it's probably more likely he'll do "Bridge Over Troubled Water" since heaven forbid he do anything that's not a ballad and/or inspirational.

- "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" sounds perfect for Syesha; I'd be really happy if she did the Carole King version, but I like a lot of your choices for her; anything fun and upbeat can only work to her advantage at this point

- Carly doing "Go Your Own Way"? AMAZING.

- House of the Rising Sun by the Animals (oooh man, I get chills thinking of Michael singing this) WIN

Well they do have 2 songs to do tonight! So perhaps Jason could do Mr. Tambourine Man and Dream. :D

If ANYONE does He's A Rebel I'll freak out. Especially since I'll be seeing the show with Clio XD (Also, I so totally strut like Blake when that song comes on my shuffle. XD)

He'll do "Bridge" and he really shouldn't because no one's going to do it better than Clay Aiken. Though I really, really want that to be the duet song for David and David because it'd be cracktastic.

Syesha does really well when she's upbeat, too: she has a lot of energy on stage. When she did "Hello Again" it felt very fake, idk.

I wish I knew Carly so I can go to her and be like "sing this song plz?" because I know that she'd enjoy doing it too.

House of the Rising Sun also fits Michael's criteria for being one of those "epic" rock songs he loved to do yet it would have a bluesy feel to it and show off his voice. He really, REALLY should have stuck to that genre.

I actually never liked Carly because of the whole record label issue, but I also realize that she was one of the more talented people on the show and I miss her :( And Michael had found his stride and then got eliminated! It was like when Phil finally realized "ZOMG youguys I like country music!!1!"
