Hermione looked up from her book, heart pounding, as she caught sight of Rose crouched over the pavement. “Rosie!”
The toddler looked up, tears running down her cheeks. “Owie,” she warbled.
Hermione rushed to her side. “Oh sweetheart, did you hurt yourself?”
Rose shook her head. “No,” she cried. “Lolly owie.” She pointed a pudgy finger down at the ground, where her ice lolly lay broken.
“Did you drop your ice lolly?”
Rose nodded. “Yes.” She smacked the pavement with her tiny hand. “”Go boom.”
She looked up at her mother with wide, hopeful eyes. “Can have ‘nother, pease?”
