2 AM Buffy and Social Justice

What better to do at 2 AM during finals than to blog about Buffy?

I was drinking free coffee at College Library. I could probably sleep if I wanted to - my body is totally used to disorder and caffeine - but I kind of want this episode of Angel to load so I can finish it. Might as well stay up, right??

Whee Buffy!

It's too early to talk about the Willow/Tara relationship and keep you spoiler-free, but I do agree with your thoughts so far! I think Joss and co. were facing studio censorship of overtly gay plots, which is why so much lesbianism in this season is coded as magic and you won't get to see much overt lesbianism onscreen. However, this relationship is a groundbreaking one for television history.

also, as time passes--both in story and in real life--all the relationships get more explicit and a lot less censored. (I hate kissing and sex scenes of all kinds, so...)

In that case, I intend to burn through the rest of the series, so we'll be able to pick up this topic in a month or less!

But yeah, I've been noticing the rise in explicit content! At first I was like, "Okay, less censorship, most the stuff I like has adult content," but it's at the point where I just feel like it's unproductive adult content. True Blood's blatant porn is kind of productive because one of the big themes is animalistic and raw sexuality and how people deal with it (though admittedly the books it's based on are a little bit romance-novel) but I just don't need to see Buffy and Riley bumping and grinding for so long!
