As for getting rid of the links, did you try editing the image url? It looks like you have link code in there instead of just the image source code. :)
If you take out the (a href) tagging and just replace it with simple (img src) tagging, it should fix it. Or you could be cool (read lazy but still awesome) and use Semagic. It does the coding for you, you just feed it the link. ;)
This --> (a href= "http: //pics.livejournal.com/homette/pic/00392w0p/")(img border="0" height="107" src="http: //pics.livejournal.com/homette/pic/00392w0p" width="100" /)
becomes this --> (img src="http ://pics.livejournal.com/homette/pic/00392w0p" width=100 height=107 title="" )
