Despite the many apprehensions Apollo had about the living quarters, he felt no qualms about the bathing situation. Indeed, why would he? The expression "built like a Greek god" had come into play for very good reason. Apollo felt as comfortable naked as he did when he was fully clothed.

He walked into the showers, wearing a towel wrapped around his waist for the moment. He still wasn't feeling as well as he wished he did--he still didn't feel like himself, and that was really the problem. His body ached and he felt dizzy after standing up too long. Still, a near-death experience was no excuse to neglect his hygiene. He'd managed to pull himself out of bed and gone into the showers without any assistance. He was just about ready to plop himself onto the floor and let the water run over him when--

What was she doing here? Well enough to shower but not well enough to even ask him how he was doing? And after all those times she'd been mad at him for not being considerate or caring enough ( ... )

Cassandra's muscles tensed when she thought she heard footsteps. Damn. She had purposefully waited until this late hour to use the showers, hoping that no one else would be awake. After the last few days, everyone on the caravan had been practically sleepwalking through life. It had been a very good plan, based on a highly logical assumption. But the best laid plans, in her experience, always had a way of crumbling ( ... )

As the steam grew, he lifted his hand to touch his hair. It was already getting damp. So she was avoiding him, then. That was fine. If she was going t become this person, he could accept it. Cassandra had always been somewhat of an enigma to him, but this person, he could understand. A person who could take what they want and show little or no sympathy for people who were affected by their actions? That person he could understand very well.

After steadying himself for a moment, he went over to his own shower head, keeping a distance away from the woman, and tossed the towel aside. As the water began to come down, he leaned his head back and closed his eyes, letting it fall over him for a short while. There. That was already better. At least it could wash away the stench of the battle.

He turned his head, wiping the water out of his eyes. She still hadn't spoken. Well, that was fine with him. "And how did that taste of immortality please you?" he asked, voice laced with the faintest hint of bitterness.

Oh.

This was no good. No good at all. Despite the warmth of the room, Cassandra felt a frigid cold run through her veins. A scream started to crawl its way up her throat, but she swallowed it down.

Apollo.

She had been dreading this confrontation, inevitable as it was. It meant too many things, among them that what had happened in Fort Hood had actually happened. Denial had been an appealing possibility. The next best thing to a rebirth.

Perhaps she would stay true to her honesty. Not that she imagined it would make much of a difference to Apollo. "I've never wished for anything as fiercely as I've wished that it was all a dream." She closed her eyes. "I don't know what to say."
