X was beginning to accept that nobody was going to have any solid answers about how they'd all gotten here. It was frustrating, but there was nothing to be done for it -- still, he reasoned, it would be prudent to get a feel for the surroundings, even if they wouldn't be staying in this town for long. His instinct said this town was safe enough, but he'd rather take a look around and be sure before he did anything as rash as taking off his armor.

There were others milling around, similarly confused. That was fair enough, and he didn't think twice about it --

-- wait, did that woman have a skull?

But she didn't look like she was doing anything he should be worried about, oddly enough. She was just a woman. With a skull. Who appeared to be...looking for something?

"Excuse me," he finally said, making his way over. "Do you need help with..." Er. "That?"

Brennan was used to people attempting to distract people from her work. Over the years, she had developed a filter for the civilian that wanted to interrogate her about something or the other. She continued her search for twigs, leaves - maybe some sort of vegetation that tied everything together.

She reached into her back pocket, reaching to get some gloves so that she could handle the particulates and other assorted items with care.

He recognized that look. The intent, I'm-Doing-Science-To-It look -- he'd seen it on Alia all too many times back at Hunter HQ. And that would explain why the woman had a skull to begin with, at least. (X had considered other possibilities. Given the nature of those other possibilities, he was more than happy to discard them.)

"Do you need any help with that?" he repeated. If she didn't, that was fine, and he'd move on, but it was only polite to make a reasonable effort to breach the Science Zone and be sure before he wrote it off.

Atem had been in the main district but that proved fruitless as anyone that could be of real help was not actually present in the town. It was quickly becoming clear that this was all very real and that it was not about to change anytime soon. So, since the waywarrant, with all the supposed answers, was not due back for another day or two he might as well try to learn about his surroundings. The land itself was a marvel, so green and overflowing with life, especially when compared to his own dichotomy of desert and river valley. But what he found even more curious was the people. The faces were different of course but the archetypes all familiar even to the sheltered king ( ... )

It was an automatic response. How many times had she been detained by securities of various countries for carrying bones over borders? She stood up and regarded the young pharaoh with a rather tired expression - clearly she had heard that question more than she had wanted to.

"I have not determined sex of the individual whose skull that once belonged to. Though cause of death has also not been determined, I can assure you that the individual was dead roughly two to three weeks before I obtained their skull."
