I'm so sorry this took forever :( got into a rut after otakon!! am ok now!

He was trying not to think too much, trying to keep his pace at a leisurely but determined stride towards where Nill had given him directions to. He was trying to not get his hopes up, trying to remember that hey, you did wake up in a cell with the most random bunch of people and that this was supposedly a very very far way from "home". Heine had his doubts about this place being even physical (he was still waiting to wake up someplace, maybe Badou's apartment tipped off the side of the couch with a few bottles strewn around uselessly in evidence that, yes, this was all obviously a dream and the only issue he had to worry about was why he hadn't woken sooner.

And for anyone else, he'd have taken that chance. For anyone else, he would have dismissed them until it was impossible, act like it was nothing of necessity because not a single one of them was worth the time and effort and sanity that needed to be forfeited to a meeting that would confirm all of this was real. In fact, some of them Heine would even seek to avoid for as

The occasionally clicking of feet on stone outside the doors brought her hope as they grew closer and knocked her down as they faded away. It became harder each time, worse than footsteps preceding them until she sunk to the floor to stare at her reflection in the immaculately clean marble

It was almost as if neither of them had ever left home; the way she looked now being the same as when he last saw her. Heine himself was at least in much better shape than when that fight initially ended, although his clothing had suffered some newer rips and bullet holes that seemed to always decorate his outfits (much to Nill's despair) when he came back from a fight. Heine had barely made any more steps forward before she was in front of him, taking care of the remaining distance between them. And when she took his hand, he knew that to have even considered that talk floating around different version of people and about timelines and different worlds and etc. really had been more than just stupid on his part
