X, on the other hand, didn't have a particular goal as he wandered the castle -- he just wanted to take advantage of the stop and spend some time somewhere that wasn't the caravan. Knowing that they'd all be stuck there for who knew how long was good motivation to make the most of whatever time they could elsewhere, even if he wasn't the type to get bored or tired of his surroundings easily.

And while storage rooms probably weren't terribly high on anyone's list of interesting tourist destinations, the castle (like everything here, really) was different enough from anything in X's world that even the most mundane parts of it, as far as he was concerned, were still a novelty.

He was surprised -- but only a bit -- that the next storage room he poked his head into was occupied. It wasn't the most interesting of places in the castle, sure, but if it was interesting enough for him, well, why should he be the only one? What really caught his interest, though, wasn't the fact that there was someone else scoping the rooms out -- but who it ( ... )

Aigis was busy looking pleased with herself, staring into a mirror that had been lying around near the mask. She poked at a few of the fake spider's legs, smiling as they bounced around. It was certainly an interesting find, and one that would likely get her noticed by many people at the masquerade. And the more people she could meet, the better! Everyone she'd met so far had been so helpful, and already she'd learned some wonderful things. Imagine how much more she could discover with that many people gathered in one room ( ... )

"I haven't run into any others since I got here, before you. It's a pleasant surprise to realize I'm not alone here after all." He paused a moment, watching her reaction. She seemed surprised -- and not just surprised to find someone else here, as he was; no, her reaction reminded him of something else entirely.

Reminded him of the way he'd reacted when he and Dr. Cain had finished building their first reploid. He'd known it was possible, he'd known it was coming, but in those first few minutes when they activated him, X had still been almost unable to believe it -- it had been difficult to process the fact that he was no longer a complete oddity, a single thinking robot in a world of humans. That he was no longer alone.

Was she having that same moment of revelation, he wondered?

Either way, it was a question that would keep, at least for the next few minutes. As glad as he might be to find another robot here, it was still no excuse to stop being polite. "Sorry if I startled you. My name is X."

"Not alone..." Aigis held her chest as she let that sink in, because that had a lot of meaning for her. She was the last of her kind, and the only one still functioning--or rather, "living"--so she most definitely knew "alone." Still, could she say that she was truly alone? There were her friends, of course, but would they ever know how it felt to be a robot? To look at others and see everything she couldn't have, like hands that weren't cold and hard or a beating heart? Maybe she was alone. But the more she thought about it, the more she got confused. It was all so complicated ( ... )

Amaterasu's grand plan to infiltrate the castle and find the prisoners if not free them had failed by the simple act of Beast releasing the prisoners on his own. Which was good in its own way - mission accomplished anyway - but it was slightly unsatisfying. And now all this talk of a masquerade which she was sure she couldn't fully participate in - hard to disguise a wolf among all these humans, after all.

Not that Amaterasu was going to let that stop her. She was making a round of the storage rooms, trying to find something species-appropriate and failing until she found a blank scrap of parchment lying around. Remembering Orochi's lair, she'd used a tiny bit of power to draw a "face" onto it, then plastered the parchment to her head. Perfect. Though a bit more might be needed ( ... )

This is doubly funny because I just finished that area. getrightbackup July 11 2010, 08:43:23 UTC
"Oh!" stated Aigis once she noticed the parchment-covered head peek in. From the initial glance she'd gotten, she'd almost thought that Koromaru had found his way to Willaknapp and to her. However, in order for that to be the case, she reasoned, he would have had to grow to nearly triple his original size, lose his distinctive coloring, and be an entirely different species. Besides, she wasn't picking up his usual thought processes. The ears were pretty similar, though, and that made her smile. And to see someone else already in a partying mood? Lovely!

With a quiet chuckle, Aigis gestured for Amaterasu to come in, having no problems with the choice of costume. After all, her mask had a spider on it; it wasn't like she was the best judge of taste. "It's all right," she answered automatically. "Perhaps we can search together for items to complete your ensemble?"

Amaterasu barked happily as she trotted in. The definitely-not-human smell didn't bother her a bit, especially after all her time with X. Amaterasu didn't comprehend robots, but neither did she care. A welcoming face was never unwelcome, especially with all the oddness that had happened this past week.

She stood near Aigis, looking up at her, trying to get a sense of how big she was. After all, if Aigis was going to help her look, it was only fair that she help Aigis as well. It might be difficult to find something that would match that mask of hers. But that's just a challenge they'll have to overcome!

Amaterasu's happiness was infectious. Aigis found herself beaming once she came into the room with her, and she clasped her hands with delight. She was making so many friends today! "Oh, forgive my manners. I am Aigis. It is a pleasure to meet you!" At that, she gave Amaterasu a good scratching behind the ears, making sure to be gentle. She wanted to assure her that she was a nice robot.

But now! It was time to search. Aigis pulled her hand away and tapped her chin lightly as she looked around at everything around them. "We have many choices, it seems." She stared hard at the parchment mask, wondering what might match nicely. Since parchment was tan, perhaps something brown?

Spotting a trunk, she opened it and rustled around. After a moment, she pulled back, holding up a long cloak. It seemed to match the criteria well enough, so she held it up for Amaterasu to see. "Do you like this?"

At that point, Aigis was curiously tugging at the guaze-ish material at the top of the mask, wondering if there was a way to arrange so that it would cover her fans. So far, no luck, and in any case, it was a little too see-through to be useful for such a task. Then again, maybe it would be best to keep them uncovered--she didn't want to overheat without having the lab nearby to make any necessary repairs and adjustments. ...What if they gave away her identity, though ( ... )
