Well, it had taken her fifteen painstaking minutes, but Cassie had managed to get herself and her junogram down the flight of stairs into her inn's lobby without too much damage to either. The computer was now strapped to her back with some ribbon borrowed from the landlord, and she'd slipped out into the street behind another of the guests.

Now to find Jaime. The area wasn't packed, exactly, but there were still sizeable groups gathering that she had to skirt around whilst searching each for a 'confused mexican kid', as well as Teddy, Billy and Tommy, who also should have been somewhere nearby. Three groups and one narrow miss from an unobservant passer-by later, and she'd managed to locate someone who at least matched the description.

And he was looking the wrong way.

"Hey!" She waved, standing on her tiptoes to give herself all of another centimetre or two of height. "Jaime? It's Cassie!"

Jaime blinked and looked down at the sound of a tiny voice. Wow. She really was small at the moment. He crouched down to offer a hand for her to stand on, so that he could lift her up to hear her better. Ah, size-shifting. Never science, always magic as he'd been told.

"You weren't kidding," he observed wryly, "Any idea why you can't change back?" He took a few steps into a side street so that they could speak without being disturbed. Or unobtrusively eavesdropped on.

"I can change back, kind of," she replied, balancing on his hand gingerly as he stood up again and moved somewhere less crowded, "It just doesn't last for very long before I get dizzy and have to shrink again." Which she had tested rigorously. Or as rigorously as she could without actually making herself pass out. "It's the same for the others."

Once they were safely out of earshot of the majority of the others milling around in the street, she got to her feet and rested one hand on her hip in what she hoped was an authoritative gesture. "Yours aren't working either, right?"

"I...don't know, honestly. I haven't really tried." Well, that just confirmed what a bad liar he was. Hopefully he wouldn't have to deny anything directly any time soon.

"I'm not a very good liar." He laughed nervously. "And my powers aren't really mine, they come from--" He goes silent and waves his free hand as if hearing someone else speak.

"I know, I know! I'm getting to you. Sheesh." He sighed and shook his head.

"Anyway. They come from Khaji Da. The scarab. He's basically an alien bug robot that's grafted to my spine. He lets me do..." He paused again as alien armor suddenly encased the young man.

Throughout her life in the Patriarch's world (though she never called it that anymore), almost everyone she had met had commented on how Diana commanded the attention of a room. Everything about her said confidence and strength, and even without the grand entrance of flying, she managed to stick out amongst the crowd ( ... )

Jaime froze for the barest of moments. He was a bit used to meeting the big heroes these days (Guy Gardner had eaten a burger at his place after all) but this was Wonder Woman. It was like meeting Superman. Or Batman. Okay maybe not Batman. But still! He stepped forward, holding out a hand.

"Ah, hi Miss Diana. I'm Jaime, I talked to you on the phone-thing? You might know me a bit better as Blue Beetle." Keep cool, Jaime. It's not like she's gonna bite your head off like Bats or punch you into the nearest pile of large rocks like Guy.

Right?

Cassie peered around the side of Billy's head as Diana arrived and Jaime went to greet her, the conversation having died as soon as the heroine had walked into sight. Automatically, she reached over and brushed some crumbs off Billy's cape. If she was one of the most powerful heroes in Jaime's world, they wanted to make the best impression possible. Powers or no powers.

"She really is like Thor," she muttered to her current perch, unsure how good their newest member's hearing was. "I'm not the only one who feels a little outclassed, right?"

"Just a little," Billy replied in an undertone, self-consciously adjusting his cape.

He raised a hand in an awkward greetingy sort of way. "Uhm, hi, I'm, uh -- I'm Wiccan. Usually. When I've got more, uh ..." When he wasn't wearing jeans and a t-shirt. When his magic actually worked. When he wasn't trailing off into awkward silence.
