His memory had been failing him for some time--mostly due to the enhancements he had made to his own body and the alterations that had come with it. Modifications which had purpose to him, that would help him in that eternal endeavor to be closer to God. Charley found mistakes in his own immortality, ones he wished to correct with the unspoken rule of assisting those who did not receive it from others. For all he knew, it was something ingrained into him at a young age; as much as he could remember, at least. Not for the first time, he wondered if it was better to be so clueless. It did nothing for him in his current situation: it had been almost a week already, and he was managing ( ... )

Nodoka stepped into the room quickly, turning to offer Charley a bright smile. Her very nature allowed her to be far more trusting than anyone would expect of an average teen (considering the precarious position her life had been in, more times than she could count, trusting other had become second nature) and it was because of this that Nodoka felt no fear in offering her secrets to Charley. Trusting him was easy; it was breaking that trust that would be difficult, and she knew it. Perhaps it was a genuine fault in her personality but, for the moment, she was trying her hardest not to care; it hurt less to offer people trust than to deny them it, after all ( ... )

He watched her quietly, head tilted as she moved about the room before sitting as he'd invited her to do. The way it was set up left very little option in choices for a seat, at least a proper one. Had he been home, it would only have been the decision of which area of the house to direct her to rather than experiencing a brief moment of embarrassment and inadequacy--his hosting skills were poor. Still, from what Charley could tell of the others, they were all built similarly. There was no need for him to think otherwise of the situation, and he gave her another smile as he also sat.

And her hurried comment? In case he wanted to... Oh, of course. To be honest, he hadn't even considered it to be a lie. In a world of supernatural creatures, one would expect things such as telepathy to be common place. Charley wouldn't have questioned it at all considering the person it was in regards to; Nodoka seemed whole-heartedly earnest. If she could read minds, who was he to say it should be proven? Least of all to him, one with so many ( ... )

"Oh, I'm glad," Nodoka replied, visibly relaxing. She had trusted Charley to trust in her word, of course, but she had still been nervous; if he hadn't believed her, just as Edgeworth-san did not believe her, even with some proof, she would've been more than a little desolate. "I was a little worried - n-not that I didn't trust you, but..." But people reading minds was something that might be more than a little hard to believe. She had thought she was dreaming herself when she realised what her accidental kiss with Negi-sensei had left her with - a book that could read minds. It was certainly unexpected ( ... )
