This place looked like it was straight out of a fairytale, Shirley realized, the more she explored the place. There were so many new things, that she got somewhat overwhelmed on her first day here, which was probably why she ended up retreating this far away from the city. It wasn't like she was scared anymore, just - well, it was a lot to take in!

So seeing the fairytale scenery around her was actually refreshing, especially once she saw lots of green. The scenery in Area 11 - no, Japan, that's what Lelou was trying to restore it to, right? - was beautiful as well, but this was somewhat unfamiliar yet familiar to her at the same time ( ... )

"Hm?" X glanced up. "Oh, not at all. It'd be pretty selfish to keep a view this good to myself, wouldn't it?"

He could almost be mistaken for a normal teenage boy, aside from the fact that most "normal" teenage boys wouldn't be wearing titanium armor (or at least would seem to be having more trouble with it), and up close, there was something a little strange about his eyes. But despite the youthful appearance, something about his body language and manner of speaking seemed quite a bit older.

"I always think it's nice to share a good view with someone," Shirley smiled, pleased that the stranger didn't mind her sitting there. So she sat on the soft grass, making herself a little more comfortable. It really was a good view of the landscape. That's right, they were all going to set out soon, right? Would they be going in that direction, or another?

Shirley turned her head to look at her companion. It was... pretty obvious he was like her, displaced from... wherever he came from, but she didn't want to point that out so rudely. Was he a soldier? Now that she thought about it, his suit looked like it was made out of the stuff that Knightmare Frames were made out of... Was it even possible to make metal suits that small? I wonder if it's hot in there?

"So, are you going to be on the caravan too?" She asked, deciding to break the ice that way. No harm in getting to learn about the people she was going to be traveling with. That's why she stuck a hand out, trying to offer a handshake. "My name's Shirley! It's nice to meet you!"

"I am." He reached out to accept the handshake -- a bit carefully, so as not to crunch her hand. "It's a pleasure, Shirley. My name is X."

On his way out from the 2nd District, Jack marched lively down the road with a brown paper bag in one arm. The townsfolk had been generous with their food and he had collected a few small sandwiches and cookies to take along. The weather was too perfect for him to eat indoors, so he wandered away from the buildings to find a good spot to sit and enjoy dinner. He spotted a hill that seemed perfect for overlooking this strange, new land and changed his course for its peak, grinning at his luck.

When he was a few paces away from the top, Jack discovered he wasn't alone. Not too far off, he could see another person seated in the grass, his back towards Jack. The sunlight left in the sky reflected off what Jack supposed was blue armor. For a second he thought maybe one of the mercenaries in his guild had also appeared here. With renewed energy, he dashed forward, calling out to the stranger, "Hey! Heeey!"

X turned his head to get a look at the newcomer. Nobody he'd run into before, though that sheer level of energy reminded him of Axl (who was hopefully doing okay...wherever he was), and he couldn't help but smile.

"Hi. Great view, isn't it?"

"Yeah, you're-" Jack stumbled to a halt, his smile replaced with a gaping mouth. No matter how hard he tried to sort through his memory, this person seemed unfamiliar. Jack was able to see him clearer now that they were only a few feet away. Seems like he was just a few years older, maybe. Jack caught himself staring and tried to find his voice again.

"Hey, sorry about that, I thought you were somebody I know," he made an embarrassed laugh while rubbing the back of his head. "I know a few guys who also wear armor so I thought you were one of them. I guess you're not from Radiata City, huh?"

X laughed. "It's fine. With other people finding their friends here, I think it's pretty easy to get your hopes up."

A little less sarcastic than Axl, then. But he seemed like a pretty nice kid, and if he was another of the travelers who'd be taking the caravan, then it only made sense to get to know each other. "I'm from Japan. Call me X."
