There were a lot of overlooked advantages to being a vampire. Of course, there was the whole immortality thing, but that was one of the more obvious advantages. So was the whole deal about being better, stronger, and faster. The one advantage that very few neonate vampires really took into consideration, however, were the heightened senses. They just came in handy, and not just when it came to matters of survival. They also served as a constant source of amusement ( ... )

It must have gone to show just how out of it earlier events had left her when she couldn't even feel him coming, not until he was right there. She started a bit, but only for a moment before she settled again. This was becoming a habit she couldn't say she was growing very fond of.

"Damon," she repeated, returning his smile with one that, hopefully, only felt more plastic than it looked. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you wait for so long...."

"Worth the wait," Damon replied, taking her hand and placing a light kiss on her knuckles.

Damn, he was good.

He pulled back, tilting his head to examine Anathema for a moment. It was mostly for show. He already knew exactly what he planned to say. It was a script that he had memorized and one that worked for him, no matter what his aims were. Although they were generally pretty standard.

"You look like someone who's seen way more than she ever wanted to. And now, it's just catching up with you." He paused for dramatic effect, then shook his head quickly. "I'm sorry. I don't normally try to psychoanalyze people within three minutes of first meeting them. You just...you look so sad."

....oh. Well, this was....rather new, actually. And all at once her smile softened into something more genuine, if not shy, and she looked up at him a little uncertainly.

"You can tell all that with somebody you just met?" She couldn't help the hint of scepticism in her voice, though it was hidden beneath the curiosity. If it was true, it was almost impressive. Even she couldn't read people quite that well, and she liked to think she was rather good at it.

Not that he even knew the half of it if it was. "I'd....prefer not to talk about it, if it's all the same."
