Cassandra had been anticipating an angry rattling at her door for some time now (and she really should have warned Anathema about that). What she had not expected was that, of all people, it would be Jack on the other side. Jack. Who provoked and annoyed her. Jack. Whose superior attitude had brought out the worst of her, repeatedly. Jack. Who had obviously lied and withheld some important information from her ( ... )

All he could see was a tiny sliver of her angry face. Not enough. Jack braced his forearm on the door and pushed his way into the little room, just far enough to put himself between her and the door so she couldn't leave before he got answers. "What did he do to you?"

The force of the door took Cassandra by surprise and she stumbled back a few paces, her legs hitting against the bed. She was too surprised to be indignant and she looked up at Jack in utter shock.

This was definitely an interesting side of him. The man she was still quite used to was cool, calm, and collected. There was something about him now that was raw and emotional and...well...quite disconcerting, to say the least. So disconcerting that for a moment, all she could do was gape, trying to conjure up some clever words, hell, any words, to respond.

"What are you doing?" was all she could manage.

So much for cleverness.

He wasn't here to answer her questions. He was here-- Actually, he wasn't entirely sure why he was here. To try and make up for something he hadn't had the power to fix lifetimes ago, perhaps. "Did he hurt you?" It was tunnel vision. Cassandra had destroyed her life trying to get away from Apollo, and then she just changes her mind? Possible, but not probable, and even though Jack wasn't willing to just accept that Apollo was-- No. "Did he hurt you?"

She just didn't know what to do with that kind of intensity. Cassandra felt her body telling her to back away, but there was nowhere to go because she was at the bed already and beyond that, there was only a wall. But it was all very silly. Why should she want to back down? He wasn't going to hurt her. Was he?

Cassandra did her best to screw up her courage, lifting her chin slightly. In the most even, level tone she could muster, considering the fact that she was so thrown off balance, she slowly responded. "What are you talking about?"

Somewhere deep inside, she had a funny feeling he was talking about Apollo. But how could that possibly be? How could Jack, of all people, know?

Then again, he had his ways.
