online schools?

Do any of you use online school options for your children?

I'm seriously consdering doing ECOT for my kids.  I'm just wary... because to me, it seems almost too good to be true, and I don't know anyone who has had any firsthand experience with it.

What are your opinions on online schools?

I've used one online school. It was wonderful as far as the resources they provide at no cost, but in the end it didn't work out for me, because my daughter just refused to do the work. I ended up having to put her in school because she was so defiant about doing any schoolwork (this was around the fifth grade). But if your kid is willing to do the coursework, I think they are a great resource.

My daughter just finished her 6th year of cyber school. There have been ups and downs along the way, but I would do it all over again.

I know nothing about ECOT, but I will say that it depends a lot on the child's age and the program you want. I wouldn't bother with a truly online system for kids <12 or 13 years old. Not that there aren't some fun/cute computer games that younger kids might enjoy, but my experience with kids is that their reading/writing/understanding/communicating skills go through a radical change around that age. Obviously there are exceptions, but kids under 12 just don't have the skills yet for really using the internet. After the change, they get quite good at it rather quickly--though whether it's the best choice for your kids is another issue ( ... )

We use K12.com through a local charter school.
I don't like their math, but the rest is working for us pretty well.

Online schools can be good or bad. Just be aware that ECOT isn't "homeschooling". It's public school at home. Some people think they're evil because of that. I don't think there's anything wrong with them, as long as you know what you're getting into.
