Friday Five

I'm really not a meme sort of person but Friday Fives are short and painless and can be a fun, topical thing. So, I'm doing it. ;-) I promise I won't tell you my language skills, aura color, animal spirit, intelligence level or what fairy/wizard/slayer sort I am. Honest.

*very amused by icon!*

It would be a smartass move to say "fridge, oven, dishwasher..." wouldn't it?

1) Blender. The original "food processor" is still the best!

2) Microwave.

3) Serrated steak knives. It's great to have chef's knives and bread knives, but in a luddite pinch...

and in the same vein:

4) Nonstick saucepan

5) Nonstick medium pot with lid

Crockpots come and go, spatulas and spoonulas and careful-not-to-touch-the-teflon-with-that-fork stand in for each other, the breadmachine is either overused or gathering dust, but those five items see use every! single! week!

Oh man, this is the truest thing ever. I'm on a kick right now but give it a month or two and it's back in the basement.

Wow - My first ever Friday5...cool

1. large All-Clad sautee pan. I use it for just about everything.
2. Silicon potholder. I am a wimp!
3. 2 8-inch chef's knives (makes for quicker cleaning
4. dishwasher (cheating, perhaps, but it's making my life so much easier!)
5. microwave

Have a great weekend!

I do too! Xmas present from my MIL last year. Love them too - better than my silpat. If I could have done six, that would have been #6.

1. Toaster. Toast is good. Toaster big enough for bagels is better.
2. Microwave. One of those things you don't need 'til you have it, then you can't live without it.
3. Good knives. And the addition of a knife block means we can find the knife we need.
4. rice cooker. Don't use it often, but there is NO better way to make rice. Mine's very small and I'm halfway toying with getting a bigger one.
5. My big two-handled skillet. I can make anything in that baby, and the 2nd handle means I can even pick it up when I'm done.

I am rice cooker dependent. I don't think I could make it any other way. I also use mine for pilafs, beans and have even tossed soup in to stay warm during a party. It's multifunctional!

I flirt with an electric kettle but haven't committed. We have a water cooler that has a hot water dispenser but it is just this shy of being hot enough. I always end up back at the stove.

So, those rice steamers are really worth it? I'll have to put one on my Christmas list.

My top five:

1. Coffee maker, duh *g*
2. Toaster oven
3. Large non-stick saute pan
4. 8 qt. Stainless pasta pot
5. Wine bottle opener :-D

Well, they're worth it if you eat a lot of rice, which we do. I use it at least once a week and, as I said above and too lazy to repeat, I use it for other stuff too.

5. Wine bottle opener

You know, I was thisclose to having my #5 be the cocktail shaker. But I was honest. Sometimes it goes straight from bottle to glass OMG! ;-)

We did find out the hard way, however, that our rice-cooker is not good for making oatmeal. We got about a cup out of the two-cup prep - the rest stuck and burned. And spit up on the counter. Ah well, at least it makes nice rice!
