Controversial Billboard Stirs Conversation

Because, of course, the only reason anyone white could have possibly had for voting for Obama in 2008 was because they wanted to prove they weren't racist, and the only issue to take with that sign is that it implies people who voted for Obama are idiots. Of course.

post-raciaaaaaaaaaaaal~, wtf, infodump

The billboard says: "If you voted for our current president in 2008 to prove you weren't a racist, please vote for someone else in 2012 to prove you're not an idiot."

If, on the other hand, I voted for him because I believe in what he stands for and think he's a good candidate for President... well, then, I suppose I shall have to continue to take pride in these people's disapproval of my choices.

Gah.

I will say, though, voting for someone just to prove one isn't racist is pretty powerful evidence of idiocy, for a number of reasons. First and foremost being that voting for a black man doesn't prove anything about one's lack of racism. Or prove much of anything, since the ballots are secret.

Again I say, gah.

I am curious to see who was behind the sign. The sign helps President Obama judging from how angry it made you; only Rahm Emmanuel is Mayor of Chicago, but I could see him using such reverse psychology.

If this sign was in Williamsburg, I'd agree with part of the sentiment, because the hip and trendy whites in Brooklyn are about as racist as a 90 year old white guy from Mississippi.
