That was my thought as well...both of them. He's too skinny for winter riding!! However, it only gets down to like 35 here, so....But yeah, hurricanes suck. Maybe he can carpool??

Either way, I couldn't talk him out of that option....

Has anyone here been on a bike when it's 35 degrees out? I HAVE! You're talkin' out your ass if you don't think it's cold. It's a bitch and that was when I really loved the cold.

That sucks. :-(

How about this: skip the bedroom set (if you still can), sell the car for parts, and then buy a mid-range used car (e.g. 8-10 year old civic/corolla). I don't know if that would really work, but I hope you figure something out. Would they make you go to work if there's a hurricane?

I appreciate the suggestion, but it has several flaws. First, the bedroom set is being financed, so we're not actually paying anything perse right now. And we need it....Second, selling a car for parts sucks, and the car's not exactly trash right now. Someone could easily do the work themselves and get it back on the road. But selling a car privately is a nightmare - better to use it as a trade-in. Third, this car is only 8 years old itself. My last car was 13 before I got rid of her. I'm not putting myself through the hassle of ANOTHER used car. I might get a pre-owned that's like 1-2 years old from a dealership, but buying yet another privately owned used car is like shooting myself in the foot. It's just asking for more mechanical problems in the next year or so.
And yes, they do make you go to work during hurricanes - because we don't get the full thing, just the far-reaches of the arms. Which is plenty bad enough if you're on a motorcycle!! Plus, we get tornados spun off from the hurricanes.

Get a old GM car that can be worked on for cheap and see if it gets you through the winter. Then put L. out to work on the street corners and see if she can bring home some crack hoes with lots of extra cash in their pockets or brassieres. Steal the money from them. You might even get a cheap feel while you're at it. Don't let them see you steal the money because they will kill you. Run Home! the end

Why would I buy a car just to turn around and buy a car? I can't afford to get it worked on "for cheap". I can't afford to get it worked on AT ALL. And I don't have the cash for another used car. I might as well just suck it up and go for a "new" or a 1-2 year old pre-owned. February is the latest possible date that we would wait to get the new car...It's the worst case scenario. Hopefully we'll be able to pull it off by like November - which isn't bad at all. (except for the hurricanes)

And the crack hoes suggestion is fantastic! I can only hope Laura will go for it...Maybe if I get her drunk enough??

Never in my life have I been able to afford a new or 2 yr old car..... My reasoning was simply, once you got a decent cheap car,(perhaps with a personal loan?) you might get used to it and living like the poor person that you are. Then you wouldn't have to buy a new car until you could actually afford one. Then, of course, you may NEVER get a new car on those terms. Like me! Maybe Pats parents would like a new car and would give you their old one? Ok. Enough dreaming. But, maybe, if you got them very, very drunk?
.......I dunno...... you might have better luck with the crack hoes.

ooop! Never mind. I just read your "I don't want another GD used car" rant. Damn! ... and I had this beautiful 89 Pontiac I though you might be interested in....... oh, well, that will probably be on the road for me soon enough after I sell the Caddy.

"Has anyone here been on a bike when it's 35 degrees out?"... Actually, I've been on a bike with no windshield or anything at negative ten. Anythings possible with a full faced helmet, head sock, goretex long-johns, double gauntlet gloves, jeans, double socks, and leather chaps and boots! Did it for 3 years until I had a first car of my own. So tell ethiopian-boy to man up and unpack his New England winter gear! Atleast you don't have the snow, hail and ice to contend with ( ... )

HEY! HEY! HEY! I'm getting a little tired of these 'no teeth' cracks! You ALL know who had no teeth, and he was a better man than any full-toothed, pussy whipped jack-off that I know.

Other than that, your remarks were pretty damned funny Alex! Especially about the tire rotation!!

As far as being on the bike in -10 degrees, now THAT'S JUST PLAIN CRAZY !

I recall a very wiseman often proclaming "you've gotta fuck with the dick you've got!" Which in my case was college life in New Hampshire, no car to speak of, and just the KZ750 for the entire year. Unless there was too much snow or sheet ice to contend with, I had no choice really but to either mooch a ride off of a friend (which didn't happen in the direction of Framingham), or go (frozen) balls to the wall and dress myself up eskiom-like and get on the bike. In an hour and a half from Rindge to Home, I would get off the bike about four times to warm my hands up in the exhaust (oooh so healthy) just so I could continue gripping the clutch and throttle. It sucked, but got easier with the Silverwing. That bike can be ridden no matter what the climate, so long as there's traction under the tires ( ... )
