Please, my Lord, I implore you to have mercy of these libertine children in the City of Lights. These poor little, lost sheep would find the way back to the herd with Your guidance. Grant them salvation for their sinful souls I beg you!

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.[Making the sign of the cross, the kneeling young Sister ( Read more... )

The buildings are dyed shades of rose and gold, the setting sun obscured by the black lines of towers and domes rising skyward. He is just setting out for the evening, aimless but alert, when he passes the young nun.

Never one to disrespect authority (at least in public,) he gives her a slight bow as he passes, and a faint smile.

"A pious and noble calling." There is no note of sarcasm in his voice, though he doesn't entirely mean the compliment, either. "I must confess I've never known a woman of God who took an interest in the sciences, before."

"Maybe I was a woman of science who took interest in the Lord," Lilith corrects him with a placid smile on her mouth. "I graduated before I was ordinated."

"Why must be one and the other? I never understood the contradiction," Lilith confesses humbly. "They are complementary."

That gets a brief smile. "I suppose because both purpose to offer an immutable explanation of our world. It is one thing to see the common cause in healing the body and healing the soul; deciding whether we're creatures built up of quantifiable parts as any other beast is, or only so much mud imbued with a divine breath..." He shrugs, looks at her. "I think you may have more insight than I."

"God created the world in a week, but what is a week for God if millions of year for humanity?" Lilith asked, arms crossed. "How do we know the effects of the mud and divine breath once its imbued? There are many things written by the Lord that to us, who are finite and imperfect, would be different."
