I always, always imagine Sherlock with icy cold feet.

This sentence is amazing: "Day inches its way into the room with soft edges, like an apology." That accomplishes so much within the story.

I love the way you have the power balanced so evenly between the two of them, so much emotion herded back and forth so they stay on course with how they need to treat each other.

Really? :D I do think of him with bare feet quite often; I love the scenes in which he's in a strop, wearing his pyjamas and barefoot. I just sort of helplessly love him when he's like that.

In this, I wanted to work with the careful re-balancing of a dynamic that's changed over the time they spent apart; I think John taking some of the control back that he (willingly, and only superficially, but still) relinquished during S2 would be part of him letting Sherlock back in his life. :)

Okay, you're right. They're not always icy cold, although they are frequently bare. They're only icy cold when I imagine him coming into anyone's bed unexpectedly at night. Yeeeow! Sherlock!

Heh, yeah. Especially because I can't imagine him breaking up his experiments/sulk/violin playing to go put on some socks, even when it's freezing. It probably wouldn't even register until John goes ARGH GET YOUR FEET AWAY FROM ME in bed. :D *giggles for a while thinking of what sort of slippers Sherlock would wear if he wore any*
