Reaction: Amy's Choice

I’m not 100% sure how I feel about this week’s episode, while it had its moments something about it didn’t sit well and I’m not sure why.

I could totally believe old people all have aliens inside of them - really, I don’t trust OAP’s and I include my own grandmother in that (she’d clip me anytime if I got too close and wasn’t quick enough) so seeing Rory go to town on an old person with a piece of wood was pretty cool - as was the old folk attacking with various walking aids and…a lawnmower. Though please don't think I'm out to get all old people - as long as they leave me alone then everything is cool with the world.

Amy’s pregnancy was just a running joke I thought - a funny one too. To looking down to see if she actually was pregnant to comment on just how huge she was. I suppose if it wasn’t really what she wanted then in a dream it would be made fun of. I think it was those moments that made the episode quirky.

What was with the snow? When was the episode filmed? I couldn’t work out if it was the weather during filming or if it was part of the script. I’m going to with part of the script as it made sense, while the birds tweeting for one world and the snow for another. That makes sense in my head anyway.

It sort of had a dark undertone didn’t it by the end? The fact that deep down the Doctor wants Amy to pick between him and Rory - but at the same time is trying to push her away because after all, she isn’t the first girl he’s taken a long in the TARDIS.

The dark undertone to the end is sort of what makes me unsure of how I feel about this episode. The episode just wasn’t what I thought it would be, and while that’s not always a bad thing, this time it’s given me a total moment of confusion. It was a clever episode, with some bittersweet moments and of course quirky moments, but the whole thing just fell short in some respects and I just can’t figure out how.

Maybe because Amy’s choice doesn’t have such a huge impact like the title suggests. While she picks Rory in the ‘dream’ world, she still doesn’t say that she loves him - and by them both travelling with the Doctor it seems to have almost erased the choice all together - though ultimately she does pick Rory. I’m babbling in circles I think.
