LJ TOS and Planning for the Summer Round

Apr 06, 2017 12:23

A couple orders of business before we start our summer round!

First, given the new LiveJournal Terms of Service, we are questioning the long-term sustainability of hosting Holmestice at LiveJournal. The new TOS seems to be explicitly anti-smut and implicitly anti-LGBTQ+; furthermore, we have questions about whether the new TOS protects author and ( Read more... )

I'm new here, so this doesn't carry much weight, but my suggestion would be to host works on AO3 only, and to crosspost mod posts to LJ/DW for this round. A slower switch might take more people along.

Three weeks is a pretty short writing time. I'm new to writing this fandom, and I'm not sure I'd risk signing up in that case. Is there any reason not to add another week?

Traditionally, works are not revealed all at once, but a few works a day from June 1 to June 14, with creator-reveals on the Solstice. Solstice this year is the 20th. So, yeah, we're trying to find time to have this convo about LJ/not-LJ, and still wrap everything by the 20th.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. That's why we're asking.

Could you start sign-ups a little earlier? Every little bit of time you could squeeze out for the writing period would make a difference to me.

We ended up pushing the due dates and posting dates later to give the usual four weeks of writing time; see the most recent post.

I hope that helps, and that you'll be able to play with us this round! :-)

Hello!

I'd probably go for option 2 - at least for fic. It's the way many exchanges have gone and AO3 does at least specifically cater for fic in its TOS.

Is it possible to host any Holmestice fan art on Tumblr? I've posted art exchange stuff on AO3 but because it doesn't host images one has to end up using e.g Livejournal or imgur and embedding.

I've pulled all the nsfw stuff off LJ, hate the lack of control for Imgur and get TOS'ed very easily from Photobucket.

Any thoughts?

Not as active in fandom as many, but...putting in my $0.25 cents worth anyway (inflation, you know).

My vote is for Option 2, officially moving to Dreamwidth. (To be fair, I admit that's a bit self-serving, as I'm moving my journal there. Also, it's a bit ignorant, as I've never utilized my DW journal, so I have no idea how user-friendly it is.) I'm not fond of the other 3 options, but if one of those is chosen, I'll still sign up.

Also, I'm okay with a flash round. Since I'm a wordy bitch (it's a technical term {g}), the idea makes me break out in sweat in places I won't name. But that won't stop me from signing up either. {g}

And thanks for backing everything up to DW!

Thank you for being game about the possibility of a flash round, but you'll be happy to know we've shifted things around so everyone will have the usual four weeks to create. :-)

And I'm glad you approve of our backing up the comm! It would have been heartbreaking to lose the wonderful things people have made over our history.

I vote for 2 or (using DW) 3. I've migrated my journal over to DW and will likely delete my LJ once I'm done salvaging old fics from here that are in my "memories."

I'm fine with a flash round.

I am planning on leaving a single Look Over There post for people with old fic links.
