Oh, my.

On the one hand, this is not a pairing that had even begun to cross my mind...but its execution here is utterly plausible and flawlessly convincing. In particular, it gets the voice -- and the soul -- of droid!Watson down to absolute perfection. Likewise, presuming a 22CEN Holmes who had been partnered with original!Watson back in the day, I can well believe that he'd have been just this desperately lonely in the wake of his revival into New London.

Beautifully, beautifully done...and the one person I'd have suspected of being most likely to write it happens to be the person it was written for. I think I'm going to need a spreadsheet and a crystal ball to have any chance of guessing authors this round....

Thank you! This was something I'd had floating around in my brain for a long time and just needed an excuse to let out. Holmes and Watson are my forever husbands in any 'verse, and just imagine the sorrow of waking up... yeah. ;D

What a gorgeous examination of the nature of identity, memory, love. Holmes's grief for his lost world is palpable. I wonder whether he would have acknowledged this Watson as his under any less bewildering circumstances, but I'm glad that, ultimately, he accepts New Watson's steady affection as a genuine inheritance from his lost beloved.

Thank you! The only way this would ever work is if Watson 1 is gone for good. Holmes would be desperate for a replacement, especially one that looked and sounded familiar. It's sad even when it's got happy notes.

This. . . this is gorgeous. Holmes's grief is so exquisitely drawn, his anger and confusion and desperation to have any piece of his Watson again. And I adore this Watson, his unstated grief at Holmes's initial rejection and his simple joy and acceptance of Holmes's tentative apology/offer. Most of all, I love the way I believe this, how raw and real the emotions are, how plausible Holmes's grasping at what scraps of happiness are possible for him in this new world is. I teared up multiple times in this, and it left me feeling gutted in the best way.

The grief in this was so interesting to work with, because nothing makes me cry like the thought of Holmes having to live without Watson. But the tone of the show is so cracky and light, except that it glosses over a lot of sad, dark things. I love it. Thank you so much, I'm really glad to hear this was effective.

Oh wow. What a beautiful story. The combination of sorrow, love, longing, and acceptance was perfect. Loved how android! Watson was more than just a machine even though he was a machine as well. Thank you very much for sharing! Reading this story was a delight. <333

Machine!Watson is so much more than a machine, and it's so interesting to watch him take on the Watson persona and become Holmes's companion. Not to mention Holmes's change of heart. Thank you very much!
