I love the idea of John boldly setting out on his adventures when the compass signals them - and then the few times when he didn't, couldn't.

It was definitely important to me that John still have free will despite the compass, and I could see him getting to a point where sometimes he ignores it deliberately because he knows he may not like it. Anyway, glad you liked the fic and thank you for commenting. :)
